The iPhone also requires a $30 data to what ever your voice plan is, AFAIK, the only people paying less bought the iphone and Jailbroke it and are using a different sim card
Or those of us with corporate discounts (from one of our clients).

I just checked my bill. The voice is $39.99, data $30 but then I get a $17.28 (~25%) discount. It looks like the comparable plan from Verizon is only $10 more than my plan with no discount.

Customers reviews have not been good so far for the Droid. Big, clunky, bad keyboard and heavy. The camera is apparently not very good.. After going to play with it, I have to agree. I also found the software to be slow and the camera froze when I tried to take pictures. All that advertising for something that falls well short. I was expecting to be wowed.

The software is met with pretty good reviews, not great and the lack of decent apps is a big set back. The reviewers are also not liking the lack of a itunes like app to manage the phone..

This newest iPhone killer is not looking like that, maybe someone can come up with a better form factor. I have the last iPhone killer, the LG Dare and it's just bad. I stuck with Verizon and wish they would just make the iPhone deal already..

the iPhone has a fast slick UI, and is easy to use..

Verizon is going head to head with the Droid advertising, best approach ? IDK

the **** Media has been the one mainly comparing every Smart phone to the iPhone not HTC or Nokia or Samsung or sprint or Tmobile or VZW

with the Droid VZW is making comparisons

the first iPhone was lacking many key 'Smart Phone' features and the 3rd ver still lacks some of those features

the iphone is more of a glorified feature phone than smart phone, but everything it does apps browsing etc.. it does very well, but unless you jail break it, they only way to get apps is those approved and available in the apple iphone app store

smart phones really are about multi-tasking and doing what you want, when you want, as much as you want.

its the media who has been trying to make every phone into an iphone killer

there is NO such thing

the iphone turned the 'feature phone' market upside down

there are NEW phones 'Droid' and others that can be 'choices' in place of the iphone and will do some tasks better, the user will be very happy and not miss the fact that they did not go to ATT and the iphone.

BUT the idea of some new jesus phone coming along and 'killing' the iphone is NOT going to happen, even IF said phone IS better than the iphone.

apple made a Paradigm shift with the iphone just like it did with the ipod and itunes,

the inroads in market share will come slowly and surely, but NOT from some dynamic take over 'killer phone'

I really hate the blogs & media, with the "killer' labeling etc..
they create the hype to drive readers to their sites

I really like the Droid, the first day was a little rough, learning new menus, new OS, and thats what it is a "NEW OS" on a new "pocket PC", and people should expect the same learning curve.

IF you want to grab something and use it fast, get a new DUMB phone, from your carrier, something that you are used to and already pretty much know the where & how of the buttons & menus

I really don't get this comment. A glorified feature phone? It's feature phone because you can only get some of the 100k apps? That really doesn't make sense. The iPhone was one of the first if not the first to give a full browser, rather then the scaled down version on so many other "smart phones".

I guess that makes the Droid a feature phone also as it won't do everything I want it to do...

What exactly is the difference between a glorified feature phone and a smart phone? Is it only a glorified feature phone because you don't like it?

you have Mac's a computer, it does multi-tasking

ALL smart phones OS's ,BB, winMo symbian, and now Android do multi-tasking

the iphone does not,

the number of apps available does not make it a smart phone, it just means lots of clutter in the app store.

it has Never been a true smart phone, that was media hype

my dare, voyager, Env and other phones, Do the same amount of multi-tasking that the iphone does.... music..in the background while you text or surf the web in FULL HTML.

this screen capture of the internet from an LG EnvTouch 'feature phone' NOT a smart phone 800*480 pixels, excellent legibility and NO side scrolling needed to read the thread ( only to see the side bars ) I belive this exceeds the iPhone specs, but it is a dumb feature phone. not a Pocket computer smart phone

a pinch zoom screen does NOT make it a smart phone, internet access does not make it a smart phone.

ability to run multiple tasks running at the same time is one of the defining points of a smart phone, the ability to purchase programs from anywhere, or to program them yourself, with out jail breaking is another ( less decisive ) factor

not to many people would be happy IF the only place to buy a program for a Mac was from APPLE and NO place else, quality hardware or not, that hearkens back to Mainframes and renting the computer and software from the MFG. not something for the Personal individual market place

as for what you may OR may not want a phone to do..only defines your preferences, it does not define the market place or what a smart phone is and can do.

if your phone is smart enough for you, it is 'your smart enough phone'

Hmmm... seems someone has an "addytude" about the iPhone. It truly never occurred to me that multi-tasking OS was a requisite for a "smart phone". Maybe you could give us some real life examples of how we would appreciate a true multi-tasking OS on our smartphones.

I would have thought a phone that does more that you ever could have thought it could do would qualify. Heck, my Razr could go on the Internet, but it never changed my life the way the iPhone has.

We have yet to see what a truly "smart" phone can do - to think the Droid is the answer or that the iPhone is not, is a mistake.

I don't have a 'tude' about the jesus phone, i have a 'tude' about people who think its the 'second coming' and about the Media hype declaring every new smart phone the iPhone killer, and then complaining when its NOT, I have a 'tude' about the mis-labeling things in the media whether its phones or gun control or personal rights against 'civil rights'
