Some good advice above.
Without the vaccine, I'm substituting VO and definitely cutting back on the news.

DW got a phone call from a long time friend that teaches in an elementry building.

One of their parents died this weekend from H1N1 after being hospitalized. He was a healthy 30 something with no prior known health issues.

He leaves behind 2 primary age kids.

H1N1 isn't a typical flu, it seems to be hardest on those born after the late 70's.

If this shows up in the local paper, I'll post the link.

We have a friend whose daughter is dying from the Swine Flu. She was 8 months pregnant when she caught the Swine Flu. They took the baby and baby is doing fine, but the mother's organs shut down and has been in a coma for the past 2 months. I hope your daughter thinks twice about getting the H1N1 shot.

She past away a couple of weeks ago. I feel so sorry for the family,

Something I've noticed: it's not the H1N1 virus that kills healthy people - it's complications that come afterward. A healthy man in his 30'2 recently died of encephalitis after getting over the swine flu.

*IF* you are unlucky enough to catch the swine flu - be VERY aware of high fevers/rashes...or a new set of symptoms just as you think you're getting better. Don't delay seeking medical help.

The free flu clinic will be tomorrow at our school. However, my wife is on her way home with my college-age daughter who was confirmed this morning to have the H1N1 flu. She was home last Thursday thru Sunday, and had spent time at her sisters elementary school helping set up for the halloween party. My two elementary girls are both home today, after having fevers.

If I did not realize that there were no computers five hundred years ago,
I would think that some of the posts regarding not getting the vacine came from the sixteenth century!
Why would any rational person not take adavantage of every opportunity to protect their selves and family?

Always have been sort of non-commital as per flu shots. However 2 weeks ago had what I think was the swine flu. If it was just a "friend" of Mr swine, then I sure don't want to meet Mr swine. I am 54 and healthy, put me down and I mean DOWN for 6 days. Can certainly see if you had prior health issues how it could be pretty darn bad. Like dying bad.

So made me a little more in favor of the shot. JMHO

Same reason I don't get the annual flu vaccine, because its a "Guess" on the part of the companies making the vaccine to match the new mutation. If it doesn't exactly match, the vaccine doesn't protect you.

"Guess" is a tremendous oversimplification of what actually goes on.

Whatever works for you. I hope enough people decline the H1N1 vaccine so I have an opportunity to get it.

Can you document any single year the flu vaccine has been totally ineffective? I didn't think so...

Ok Folks, it is time to get the best advice you can from medical professionals you respect and then make up your own mind. Closing this one for now.
