thanks for the replies. Im actually getting a 2010 23fb instead of 22fb. Which means alittle more weight(about 400lbs) and some upgrades. This now makes me more nervous because of the comments about my truck struggling with this tt, and white nuckling it. Im hopin its not too bad of a tow.
Soren.. i asked for a test tow but they said it would take too long to hook up brake control and weight dist. hitch. They also said my truck should have NO problem with towing it cause its rated at 6500lbs. BS dealer talk lol. So well have to see if this is gonna work..
Your not "asking" for anything, you are defining the conditions of the sale. You are about to purchase a unit that is far too large for your truck to reasonably handle in a safe and comfortable manner, yet you are going to waste $14K "hopin' for a desirable outcome..........good luck with that.

Are you saying they're not offering to set up the hitch and brake controller? Bear in mind, many stealers will tell a potential buyer that their tv will tow anything. I'd insist on a test drive before buying. Once you equip the tt and begin using it, all the weights you're referring to will no longer apply. Good luck, Lobo

Andy,
We share your dilemma. We have a 2006 Tacoma LWB PreRunner with Tow Pkg. It is also rated for 6500#. One of the TT's that we are looking at has a dry wt of 4412# and hitch wt of 596#. By the time Wt dist hitch, battery, propane, and our stuff is added, hitch wt will be approx 800#. We have had people tell us it will be no problem, and others tell us-No Way. The result being that we don't know what to do.
Be sure to let us know how your situation turns out, especially if you go forward with your current plans and purchase the TT. I would really like to know how well that set-up will tow with your truck.
Good luck.

lobo i asked for a test tow and they said it would take far too long and $$ to do it just to test it with wdh and brake contrll.. They also said this is the first time they have heard of someone wanting to doin this???? They told me my tow rating for the truck is plenty for this tt. I asked to tow it without the wdh hitch and brake controller just get an idea how it would tow, and they told me it would be totally different towing without that stuff, so why bother. So my tt is suppose to come in today or monday so once again i will ask for a test tow. Ive already put a $1000 deposit on it.

cliff and diana Its been tough month and half trying to figure out a good tt for this truck. I know of guys with same trucks towing 6000 lbs with no problem and 29 ft tt's but then other guys towing 4000lbs and havin troubles. I dont care for the smaller tt's like 19ft ones just not enough room, this is the only one i like. Im hopin for a good outcome and will def. let you know how it goes..

You asked if this rig would be suitable and it's not. If you want that trailer, you can trade up to a truck that can handle it. If not, then you you can go to a smaller trailer or wait until you can obtain a truck that's suitable to tow that large trailer.

Just because others are towing unsafely doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. You'll likely void your truck warranty besides possibly causing damage to your receiver hitch and/or frame.

You are trying to pull this large travel trailer with a truck that's under powered and "under built" for the job at hand.

If you have to stick with Toyota, at least trade up to the Tundra that is built to handle this Travel Trailer.

Good luck and have a good one.

I think your Toyota will pull it but I see a trade to a larger truck in your future! You will have a huge amount of wind leverage on the back of a mid size truck and it will not be a very enjoyable experience IMO.

Andy,
Buy it and pull it, but be ready for what YOU feel is necessary. We have a 2008 Jayco 19H (Hybrid). Our TV is a 2004 GMC Sierra Ext Cab 4x2 with the 5.3L and 3.53 rear end. I'm not sure I would be happy with a larger trailer. This does not change the fact that your experience could be different. For us, keeping 60-65MPH is super easy with no headwind or grade, however with either, the truck gets a workout at 3300 - 4000 RPM, even more at times depending on the situation. Good luck with your decision, I have no doubt that your Tacoma can pull and stop that trailer, but you may not truly appreciate the workout until you are behind the wheel. Good Luck, and please let us know how it works out.
