I know your out there, people that have taken a small u-haul type trailer and made it a just for camping storage/ready to go campin trailer! We have a nice HTT, what we like about the HTT is its ready when we are, we can pack ahead of time,refridgerator, A/C, micro, ect.. Seems we could put most if not all these creature comforts in a u-haul type trailer. Custom u-haul to hold 4 twin mattresses, a built in micro, a large tent, medium ridge/freezer, carpet for tent floor, cheap A/C to place on a milk creat to cool the tent (live in Fllorida),ceramic heater, We stay mostly at stay parks and the bath houses are nice. We only camp in the winter/Florida 5-7 times a year, seems the HTT is a bit $ with tags maintance,insurance,gas for towing...Anyone want a nice HTT!  looks like I have a HTT to sell and a u-haul type trailer to ready for camping! Any other u-haul type camping people out there with any tips? Thanks Tomm

Years ago I had similar thoughts but had planned on mounting A/C to trailer and sleeping in it on fold down bunk similar to toy hauler. I would pack it with screen room, outdoor cooking gear, tables, coolers, etc. Get to campsite, unload it and setup camp. Then, have empty trailer for sleeping in A/C during hot summer months or to escape rain. Of course, could always setup tent for nice weather. At the time, my only 2 complaints with tent camping were time to load/unload Durango and sleeping in July/August heat.
DW didn't think it was as good an idea as I did

I like the sleep in the empty cargo trailer when stuff is taken out! My wife is even on board about selling HTT, thus my research of the topic. Will consider size of Cargo trailer for sleeping when/if nesesary!

Depends on how many people you have. When I leave the TT at home, I "camp" in my minivan with all the rear seats taken out. A full sized futon mattress fits perfectly in the back. A very small pop up tent in the site holds the gear that is carried in the back during travel. The minivan has A/C so no worries there. No fuss camping.

When I still had the horse trailers, I used to put my hammock in btwn the stalls and sleep comfortably.

It sounds to me like you might be better of with a popup trailer. You want to pull a low profile cargo trailer full of tents, mattresses, cooking gear, etc. A pup has all of that already included. Just a thought.

When I get back from Alabama trip I have all the things worked out to get a cargo trailer.
3 windows with screens, rv door, screen door,4 jacks, 2 vents, rear ramp 6 small tie-downs, 4 interior lights, 1 outside light, awning, entrance step,For $4800 IT'S A 8.5 x 14 V-Nose.
I already have everything I need for inside, micro-wave bed, TV, Refer, two burner electric stove, porta-potty, couch may use futon.
The trailer will have as much room as two of the last three trailers I have owned.
I took a long hard look at what I used in all my years of camping.
and what I really used.
don't need a cook stove with oven, don't need a shower and bathtub, don't need a dinnett, A wash basin is nice heat water in microwave.
Half the cost and at least 4 feet shorter than last trailer should pull very easy.
There are several sites on internet devoted to conversions I have 99.9% already I will add counter & drawers in V part to hold microwave, stove, water, refer, Porta-potty.
Hope to spend a month or so in florida this winter and a long western trip next spring.

I saw a trailer for hauling two snow mobiles being used to haul tent camping necessities. How much it held I do not know but it was light weight, cheap as it was bought used and easy to haul.
