now if they only made a handle to open the vent that is low enough for the kids to reach it i would be set. i like the idea and i still will do it, but we dont leave the vents open b/c of ac or heat, so my kids wont be able to open the vent when they needed to go #2........

They do make vents that open and close electronically with a remote. I installed one in the kitchen area called a Maxxfan ( link to Maxxfan project ). Fantastic Fan makes one as well. They are alot more expensive, and you have to replace the whole vent.

How does one run new wire up to the fan and what gauge wire did you use?

I ran the wire through the same route that the light switch wires ran. It was acually very easy. With the fan trim removed, I can reach into the ceiling and shove the new wire down the hole that the light switch wires run down. I just pushed them down until I could see the wire in the switch opening. I used 16 gauge speaker wire.
