Well, let's see. You do know you will get different answers depending on where people winter. We are just south of Tampa.

Visiting - beaches, Anna Maria Island, Tarpon Springs (north a bit,) Yankees spring training, Sarasota, manatee viewing at TECO, Ybor City in Tampa - worth one trip. There are more but having a senior moment!! We have been visiting there for 10 years so don't sightsee as much as we used to. Go to The Villages at least once. Very interesting place. They have some good restaurants there too. Mt. Dora is a charming old town. Drive over the Sunshine Skyway at least once.

Eat - Lobster Pot in Tierra Ciea, The City PIer on Anna Maria, Anna Maria Oyster House (go on Wednesday - crab specials.) Billy's Stone Crab near St. Pete. Shells - many locations. I cannot abide Sonny's and they are everywhere. We try not to do chain restaurants since the menu is the same as at home. Wally's River Roo just north of the Bradenton bridge.

Shop - I like all the grocery stores near us - WinnDixie, Publix, and Sweetbay. Do not go to stores w/ golf cart parking. The old people are slower than molasses. Big mall in Brandon.

Clothes shopping - Beall's and Beall's Outlet. Go on Monday to the outlet - 15% senior discount. Many outlets in Ellenton. A Bon Worth is close to us and they have some nice things in all sizes from tiny to very big.

My husband plays golf and he looks for specials in the Tampa Tribune. Getting a paper delivered to your site is generally dirt cheap for snowbirds. We pay $1.00 a week for all 7 days.

Fishing is big - both salt and fresh water.

There are so many places to go and things to do in Florida that I could spend all day listing them. There is one place that I don't think I've heard anyone talk about but it's well worth seeing. Solomon's Castle around the Bradenton area. Check it out at www.solomonscastle.com (I don't know how but I hope someone will provide a clicky). Make sure you take your camera and I would suggest not going on a really hot day since it's not air conditioned. There is also an excellent restaurant on site. Have fun and enjoy your time in Florida.

Solomon's Castle is pretty neat. We went there last year and chatted w/ the owner/artist. Pretty talented guy. The food was good and the place was packed. Bathrooms a little rustic
It is in the middle of nowhere. One clever thing they do as merchandisers is have you pay your bill - in cash - in their gift shop!! The shop had some very interesting things too.
Worth a trip.

Our favorite place on the beach is Cady's on sunset beach just so. of tresure island. John's Pass is the best junk shop/suvaner shops. French's at rockaway beach north of Clearwater beach is a great place and be sure to try the she crab soup. Plant city is a must in Feb. for the strawberry festival. Lake Plasid Fl. for a day trip. They have murals painted on several building in town depicting the history of the area and you can eat at the tower resterant.
