I was very happy, when i got mine, and when it 'the first one' quit making power i took it in for service and they replaced it.

well the replacement is not longer working proper, its currently putting out low voltage, 45 volts at idle, I was running and the batteries were charging and we had a small 120v fan on, all of sudden the fan quit, the generator change sound then the display on the MW went out.

nothing smells burned, but the fan is dead and the MW is dead, yes i pulled it, the 15 amp fuse is good, there is power to the fuse, the control board quit.

all circuit breakers , GFI and everything else is find, the rest of the RV works fine from the Champion generator or the Onan,

but the HW generator is now useless and i have to replace the built in MicroWave

I will take the HW to the shop in a few days ( still covered by warranty ), but when it comes back, i'm getting rid of it, once I can tolerate, things happen, BUT twice along with my MW is just too much, i'll mark this up as experience and go back to using my champion.

To follow up on my own story, my replacement unit is doing OK. I've put about 40 hours on it so far and it's doing still running but the wandering idle issue is still irritating. If anything the new unit is worse then the old one, even with a light load on the generator the throttle wanders all over the place.

Last weekend I resorted to running with the choke half on - this would settle down the wandering throttle, but in turn caused the unit to consume noticeably more fuel.

My jury is still out on whether or not this will be a long term generator for me. At this point I'd not recommend it to anyone based on my initial failure and questionable replacement.

Finally saw the light Huh ? Again for 299.00 it wasn't a bad deal if you get one that runs decent, but it makes me appreciate my RED one all the more.

seeing the light? sorry i'm not ready to go out and spend $900+ for a 2000ui

Honeywell is know BRAND name, and re-branded products are all over the consumer industry.

MY luck has been unforunate and I will NO longer whole hardily endorse this generator,

they do NOT seem to have the sturdiness & quality to be 'daily users' , i have about 120 hrs on it. and it malfunctioned.

IF & WHEN the $$ can be budgeted, Honda yammy or something else might be in consideration, BUT NOT anytime soon

better for it to DIE on me than somebody that does NOT have another option for generator use. at least i still have power available.

and i can give an HONEST answer when i say "I tried them and had problems" instead of saying "all Chinese is junk" buy red buy blue

Well I used used my new Honeywell's for the first time today and I have no complaints.

Here's the rundown for anyone interested.

The unit comes with decent instructions and a small tool set. The tool set is a screw driver, a spark plug wrench/tool, an oil fill measurer/spout, and an oil cap wrench that also doubles as a screw in oil drain. The oil cap is recessed a few inches into the chassis so filling the oil with any funnel/spout would essentially easily allow spilled oil in the chassis which could be a fire hazzard.

they take care of this with a measuring picture with a long spout that fits in the oil fill neck. Worked great without a drop spilled.

I found it a little odd that it used 15w-40 oil (per the users manual.) I went to the auto parts store and couldn't find any. The store clerk told me that 15w-40 was typically a diesel oil and kept with the diesel products. Even though this is a gas engine, just found it a little odd.

I put a little gas in the tank, primed it up the required number of times and gave a few yanks on the pull start. It didn't start imediately, so I pushed the primer a few more times and repeated pulling the pull-start. It started right up.

Within a few seconds the idle settled out and I trimmed back the choke.

The generator is pretty quiet, but you can still hear it. I've only heard one Honda EU series and it was in a noisy setting (band playing), so it's hard to compare with the quietness of my backyard with a genset running, but I'm pretty sure the Honda is a little quieter. But it's no where near as noisey as the "contractor series" brigg-stratton in a frame that you buy at Lowes, etc. So overall, I was happy with the noise.

Put it in "eco mode" and it got a lot quieter.

for my load test, I plugged in a simple 500watt light. It handled it without a problem and the generator throttling up slightly.

Went over and asked my neighbor who was in his yard if he could hear it and he said no. He came over and checked it out and was pretty impressed with how quiet it was.

The only thing I really don't like is that it's not "super quiet" and adding an external fuel tank. But I think I can engineer an external fuel tank without an issue.

so... In comparison to a Honda EU2000i:

PRO'S, CON'S:
* The Honda is quieter. (but we all knew that already). But for the price and for occassional use, I can live with it being a little louder.
* You can't officially parallel the Honeywell and you can the Honda
* The Honeywell is a true 2000w and the Honda is only 1600 watts. This might really make a difference to someone trying to start an AC unit on a camper.
* no easy "no mod" adding of an external fuel tank by replacing the gas cap.
* The Honeywell is about 1/4 the price of the Honda.

so.... overall I'm pretty happy with it. Yeah I'd prefer a Honda, but my local Honda dealer wants $1100 for a EU2000 and I got the Honeywell for $299. So this is a good alternative.

I still think its an alternative, IF you only need a generator 'now & then' but not IF you do a lot of dry camping, or want guaranteed backup power when full timing

after I finished reading your paragraph, It appears you 'saw the light' too LOL

If the plan is so great, why doesn't it sell itself?
