I have rescued a small kitten (about 3-4 months of age) found on an elevated portion of I-10 East (referred to locally as "the beast" or Baytown East frwy). When I attempted to approach the kitten she opted to launch herself from the overpass into the busy feeder road traffic! After all of that, I was finally able to contain her(uninjured!)and she has become a very loving and playful little girl. I am unable to provide a home for this darling (due to pre-existing cat overload at my home!) I am hoping this big hearted group will have some viable options for her. Any suggestions? (Our local animal shelters are too full due to the economic situation) Thank you all!

An ad in the local paper? Google for a rescue group in an area nearby? Unfortunately, this is kitten season and everybody I know is overloaded with kittens. Our shelter tries to find homes for all animals we can but we've had so many kittens that we've had to put down because we just can't keep them. We cry for any we have to put down but to put down healthy, pretty, loving kittens is just heartbreaking.

I am guessing from your post that you are in the Houston area? If you were closer, I might be tempted to pay you a visit and grab that little trooper. As Joy mentioned, I guess an ad in the paper would be your best bet? Or print up an old fashioned type "Wanted" looking poster (In this case, Wanted...A good home!) complete with a photo, and post it on the board in your local Petsmart or Petco. Best of luck to you, and I hope she finds a wonderful new home! You're an angel for rescuing her!!

Wow, I wonder how many of her 9 lives that poor baby used up that day? Sounds like somebody threw her out of a car. I'm with Kathy, I'd feel like it was karma and end up keeping her, unless a very special new home came along.

Please reconsider and keep her. Our 3 rescued pets, 2 kittens, one doberman, were thrown out and they are terrific pets. Before radical decision maybe repost and list direction you might be traveling and someone may respond because you are coming their way. This country needs to step up and have pets spayed. Nothing is worse than to be in an RV park and see some dog that they have left wander around lost and trying to get into RVs. You can see the panic in their eyes. Of course, you know where they end up. Thank goodness you were there for the little one.

Thank you for rescuing her. You are obviously a good person. We have rescued many, many kittens (and kept a good share of them) We had good luck putting an add in the paper but you have to be VERY careful. I always got lots of calls but most were not suitable. There are people out there that will get an animal for snake food, and they will tell you what you want to hear. I usually told the people that called that I already found a home for the kitten but that if it didn't work out they could bring it back. Then I took their name and number and asked them what kind of home it would be going to. If they then told me all the right things, I explained my screening process and let them take the kitten. I then felt confident the kitten was really getting a good home. My father always said you could adopt a child easier than one of my kittens.

Good luck finding her a home!

Rather than take a chance on a less than loving person getting her, and if you really can't keep her, suggest you turn her over to the Houston SPCA. They will make sure she's fostered until her permanent home happens. You're in their service area if you're in Baytown.

I wonder what it would cost me to have her flown to El Paso? I just fell in love with her survival story and rescue. I could pay for her vaccinations in order for her to fly. Does anyone know how to go about something like that?

Oh, surely, if you're serious about her we can come up with something other than flying her down... Really. There's got to be somebody on the road. I know there are message boards devoted to transporting rescues for adoption. How long a trip is it?

They didn't call her "Plain Gravy" for nothing.
