RE: Louisiana campground showers

I think maximus is correct in his statements. I would extend them to cover most campgrounds, public and private. It seems that most showers are designed for ease of construction and not for effective use. Would result in a little extra cost to design shower so that water does not go into changing area but once done it is really costly to correct. Would hope that more discussion on this forum and others would lead to better showers when new facilities are built or when old are remodeled. Maybe we should report on good experiences so that the designers and builders could go and see what we want.

ISP or Website

When it takes a long time for a web page to open, how do I determine if it is my ISP that is slow or inactive or that it is the server that the web page is on that is slow? Thanks Nick

RE: Over cab slider bed

I built a tilting platform similar to what the View has. During the day the bed is held up by a pair of air struts giving plenty of head room for getting in and out of the front seats. At night you just lower the bed. Works great. Nick

RE: Towing

The two replies so far are what I expected. What are the options on secondary braking systems? How do they work? Thanks Nick

Towing

My Class C has a CVWR of 12300 lbs and a GCWR of 16000 lbs. Does this mean that as long as I stay within these ratings that The coach transmission and brakes can handle the towed car without additional help? Thanks Nick

Digital channels

I am confused by the new digital channels and the use of my batwing antenna. Thelast campground that I stayed at was near Fort Wayne, Indiana and out in the country. Did not have cable so I raised my antenna and ran a channel scan on my HD TV. Five odd ball channels were found. Not being interested in any of them I lowered my antenna (if not then I probably would have forgotten). For the heck of it, I ran another scan with the antenna down. To my surprise, it found 29 channels, most of the common ones and with a clear signal. What gives? Thanks Nick

RE: This a poll, just answer YES or NO,

Don't interfere with my reading so if they pay the bills I am OK with it.

I have a 25 ft Coachmen Freedom on a Chevy Express Chassis. Does anyone have this configuration and towing a car behind? Thanks Nick

RE: Dinette removal in Class C MH

Put a vicegrip on the nut or bolt head underneath and use wrench up top. Mine came out easily. I removed my dinette on one side and a jack knife sofa on the other. On the dinette side, I built a bench with cushion that covers water tank etc. On other side I placed a chair. Use one of the seat belts to hold chair while traveling. I built two folding tables to replace the dinette. Now have twice the room and both my wife and I are more comfortable.

RE: choachman

I have a 2004 Coachmen Freedom. I think this is the bottom of the line. Six years and 40000 miles and no significant issues.

Electric step

I have an electric step on my Class C. It works fine normally. Extends when door is opened and retracts when door is closed. If the door which override is used, the step does not retract when the engine is started. Any ideas? Thanks Nick

The truth about WiFi connection

I hope that this post does not create too much of a stir but I want to talk about WiFi connection service at campgrounds. I presently am on an extended trip through Florida and having a reliable, decent connection, decent speed and at reasonable cost is important. I have come to look at this service as a necessity just as water and electricity. Not all campgrounds provide the service and that is OK. I choose not to go to them. My problem is with those that do have the service. My experience has been ranging from great to terrible. You don't know what you are going to get. As an example. I am at the Cape Kennedy KOA Kampground in Mims, Florida. Like all KOA's they avertise WiFi. Here, the service is "... 4 hours per day and 50 megs per day downloads" Also a content filter is enabled. The four free hours should be OK for most. I don't know how good 50 meg of download is and I am OK with the filter. The problem is that the connection meter shows three to four bars but the internet speed is extremely slow. I have given up on trying to access web pages that I normally view almost instantaneously. This is an example of "good and bad" service. I have been at other campgrounds that offer free service but both the connection and speed is less that old fashion dialup. I have been at some campgrounds that have very good service. Also, I should discuss cost. I prefer that the cost be included in the price of the campsite as is electricity and water. That said I am willing to pay a reasonable fee for a good connection with good speed. I have been asked to pay from $1.00 to $10.00 per day. A few times I have paid. I think that if an extra cost is charged, that advertising and websites should list the service and the exact cost. With all I have said, I would like to propose that a "sticky" be started where we can post our experiences with WiFi service and cost at specific campgrounds. This would be a great service to me and I hope to others. Thanks if you have suffered through my long post and thanks if you will add to this subject. Nick

Go to the first unread post

About a year ago I suggested that a pick that would take you to the first unread post be added to all topics just as for those that have more than one page. I believe that the response was that it was a good idea and would be worked on. Is this feature going to be added? Thanks Nick

Streets & Trips 2010

Is it possible to get the symbols for campgrounds etc to show at a lesser zoom than what is the setting out of the box? When you have to zoom in so far as to see the symbol you loose track of where you are.

RE: US77 south vs US75 south

Sorry about the confusion. It was early when I posted and coffee was still perking. US75 and US77 should have been I75 and I77. Nick

US77 south vs US75 south

Will be heading south in about a week. Prefer to take US 77 through West Virginia but concerned about weather and road conditions. Would appreciate hearing of experiences at this time of year. Also, how much better is US75 south? I will be traveling in a 24 foot Class C. Thanks Nick

Disney World campgrounds

Besides the KOA, are there any (nice) campgrounds near Disney World that provide transportation from the campground to the theme parks? Thanks Nick

RE: Camping Advice for Boston

This past summer we stayed at a KOA near Plymouth. Typical KOA; not great and expensive. Plus factor was that they provided a morning ride and evening pickup to the nerby train station. One hour ride to central Boston. Also was convenient to Cape Cod, Newport and other areas of interest.
