RE: Why do TCers take the best pictures?

Oh yes, that elusive "f-stop" ... gotta find that first, THEN find an area where a TC can go ... works for me !! M44

RE: Why do TCers take the best pictures?

I think you answered your own question. Because they go to the best places. You forgot "CAN" ... TC'ers "CAN" go to the best places, and then we still don't have to 'unpack' much once we get there ... :):)

RE: American Idol Returns!!

One thing for sure, they've all got talent, so all will have to improve to remain competitive. Last year, we could almost pick the 'goner' each week - this year, will probalby not be as easy. Although, of course the winner (not) surprised everyone ... But Mike, he'll be hard pressed to improve, I mean, where does he go to get better than he is? All the guys are playing 'catch-up' to him. His song choice is the only thing that might hurt him in coming weeks. But, as we've seen in the past, voters are definitely fickle ...

RE: American Idol Returns!!

Well, so much for my 'pick' - Lilly gone immediately - nice sound tho' And, right, how many times can Randy say "HOT" or "Pitchy" in one season. Still, some good talent out there, so should be in interesting run ... couple guys, and most of the girls have what it takes. Surprisingly one-sided tho' in favor of the girls. Lynche for the boys and Crystal stands out on the girls at this point, but changes from week to week - not all will cover the Stones well.

RE: What to see and do in San Francisco with the family?

Golden Gate Park, go to the end, to the beach - check out The Cliff and seal islands, walk along the old 'ruins' there too. Climb Coit Tower, you can start at the bottom, by the pier, and walk up the stairs to the tower. The stairway runs through some great 'back-yards' and ends at the foot of tower, then you ride an elevator to the top ... make sure you rest first :) - stairway is not 'short' but worth it. OR, you can take a bus to thetower, but hte walk is definintely an event.

RE: American Idol Returns!!

Bringing this out here again, looking for your opinions... I'm still liking Lilly Scott, very refreshing talent. But, the women collectively have more talent then the men, by alot - I believe anyway. And, Ellen, still not sure about her - she seems more concerned with how these kids dress and look than how they perform. Was pretty touching to see Kara in tears though, and rightly so - that was a fine and emotional performance - he will be the guy to beat on the male side, for sure.

RE: Oregon Coast campgrounds

As others have written, Oregon State Parks are some of the best in the country. We drove two weeks along the coast last fall, never found a full CG, and enjoyed every one ... great system. In addition, if you are a DAV, show ID card and you get ten FREE camping days per month in OSP ... you won't be sorry.

RE: American Idol Returns!!

So, on with the 'survivors' ... lots of competition left this season. Might be a very tough year for the women. Will be hard to pick winners, lots of good voices and ability. Winners will be those that can continue 'unique' and not run out of change, losers will be those that simply 'cover' ... will be fun to watch it evolve - will be interesting to follow Lilly Scott ... definitely a "diamond in the rough" Not sure yet about Ellen, but Simon will be missed next year, for certain.

RE: Planning East Coast Trip, need advice!

Another vote for the Blue Ridge Parkway, at least Skyline Drive. Also agree with Plimoth Plantation, but would add Old Sturbridge Village - both in Massachusetts and you can easily drive between them in a few hours. Very accurate and extremely interesting historical replicate towns. And, when returning south, take I-84 to I-87 south and bypass I-95 along the Connecticut and New York north coast. The road and traffic is terrible, worse if you're towing ... and you still get PA.

RE: Lance 845 rear door mis-aligned

Yes - the back-pressure on the vents from driving winds. I did think about that, but have no solution. I'd expect if you put a 'hood' over the vent, with the rear of it open, like a half an elbow, it would let the gas out and the vent occur as designed. HMMMMMMMMMmmm ... will have to look at that and see what I can make that works - sort of a front shield with the back open. And, the door actually looks tight when eye-balling it, but the fact that some dust and moisture swirls in leads me to believe it's not tight, nothing from the visual peek tells me that. So, will install better door seals ... but it seems now that the back-pressure might be the main culprit ... The odor ia inside the bathroom a little, and inside the rear door a little, but disappears as soon as we stop - although, sometimes I need to blow the vent fan for a few minutes. Probably keeping tanks empty on long runs would help, but then, that's why we have them, to use them. Right? Will fight with this issue for awhile and see what happens. As an interesting comment on this ... odor never happened at all the first few months I owned this camper (bought it Spring 09, and never happened when we took a ten day trip down the Oregon coast. Before this Lance, I owned a Fleetwood Angler eight years and never experienced odor on that camper at all. This odor problem is recent ... last couple months only. So, in part, I'm thinking it could be something loosened a bit too, on the vent lines. The dirt and water intrusion though, is the door seal for sure.

RE: Lance 845 rear door mis-aligned

Yes - keep all traps and seals wet. And close all vents - still get some odor. Matter of fact, we took a trip along the Oregon coast couple months ago, and nothing then at all - even asked the S.O. if she noticed. She says she did not then, but definitely now, no doubt. So, it's different, for sure. So, plan to check around door, check hinges, and probably adjust and tighten all screws, nuts, bolts, etc. Also will install some kind of weather seal around the contact edges of the door/camper frame.

RE: Lance 845 rear door mis-aligned

Every camper that I owned had that problem with the smell if you drive through a smelly area.If you look on the seal at the bottom of the door there,s 2 gaps in the rubber and I,m not sure what thats for.Driving through a city was the worst because of the fumes from the traffic. This is not driving through a smelly area - this is definitely a black/gray tank odor. It only lasts a few minutes after we stop, so it is for sure related to driving not sitting still. NO doubt. We all have some minimal tank odor, that's to be expected. But this is more than normal, and sure 'wants to be fixed' whatever it takes.

Lance 845 rear door mis-aligned

My rear door is slightly mis-aligned ... when I travel, the rear door at the bottom allows dust or water inside. It's like a back-draft around the rear end creates turbulation that swirls right in under the door. It's like the bottom of the door is loose and top is tight. Two issues: One is the dirt/water on the door and floor. But also, it seems that same problem creates an odor from the waste tank exhaust fumes as well, and when I stop the odor is inside the camper for a few minutes - as if the odor swirls in under the door as well. IT disappears after a few minutes, or if I vent for a couple minutes. But this seems it should not happen ... we should not have fumes in the camper each time we stop. No fumes when parked or when camping, only after driving. Can't really look closely at door when closed because the screen door is in the way. Am wondering if these doors have alignment screws somewhere I can't see, or some way to tighten the bottom agains the door jamb.

RE: HA!!!!!! Success against BING !!!! and other ad words.

How about explaining to a technicapped camper how I get rid totally of BING which I totally hate, and make google my default search engine always. I tried to do it, but each time I re-boot in the AM, BING is there again ... Don't say "Just do this" - I need a more step-by-step way, or I won't "get it"

Craigslist Q?

Anyone know what category cargo trailers would be in on craigslist? Been looking at auto, truck, general etc - would think it would have a category of its own ... but not in this area, at least.

RE: Death Valley RV campground

Three CGs in Furnace Creek - kinda the middle of DV ... the top two fill up, but the lower CG is usually half or more full, but almost never fills unless a holiday and during winter months. I stayed there several days in Dec and no problem - half empty at that time. StovePile Wells was full every day I was there.

High power lines stability

We pass under high-power transfer lines often and sometimes see a 'big ball' on one of them. In our group, someone said for stability of the line or pole... another said so planes see them (but some are way too low for planes, so doubt that. But, not all have them, actually only a few have them -- anyone know what purpose these balls serve?

RE: Anybody know of any site availability in Florida?

And sonetimes, it depends on how you ask ... if you want two months, ask for some weeks in one spot, then move. Often when you ask the "desk" it looks in the CPU and says "Nothing for two months", but maybe it has several sites for shorter periods.

RE: American Idol Returns!!

Simon might, well, is Simon, he can't help it, but he does have very good ear and tech knowledge of music and the industry. Some of that 'byplay' is staged, I suspect, like any other entertainment show, and some spontaneous. But this show will never be the same without Simon, even if you don't particularly like him or his style. He can't be replaced - And Randy, well he could be replaced, by just about anyone that can fill a chair. And Kara listens to something else (a dream in her brain maybe, not the auditions) I have my doubts about Ellen too, in that situation ... she might be great at kicking out 'set lines' and getting a laugh - but remember what happened to Dennis Miller on MNF - total bomb when not in his staged atmosphere - and that might happen to Ellen too. When you stop (the trained pause) for a laugh, and don't get it - you're DEAD ... but maybe she can carry it off. Only the judges will tell us that - and the real judges are the mainstream audience ...

American Idol Returns!!

Without giving anything away -- pretty interesting beginning. Of course, Simon steals HIS show again with his comments - and gives every one the laughs we expect. Does anyone know why Ellen did not appear tonight? I missed the first few minutes - and suddenly, the 'temp' judge. Looks like the 'drummer' guy already will be at least one of the voices to beat ... even this early, it shows. SO, let the search begin!! Something to do on these cold winter nights in Florida ... :):) M44
