RE: Dodge interior light problem

I had a problem with my 2006 ram. When you open the door, the lights should stay on for a good while before they go out to protect the battery. Mine would go out after about 15 seconds. The dealer wanted me to bring it in to reflash the computer (under warranty). I did not have time, but I disconnected the battery for about a minute and reconnected it. That solved the problem. Never happened again. I know it is a different symptom, but you could give it a shot.

RE: I-10 Alabama to New Mexico

There's a campground in Livingston, LA that is right off I-12 and a pretty nice place especially for an overnight stop. That seems like it would be around the 4-5 hour mark depending on exactly where you are coming from.

RE: What would you do if you put gas in a diesel?

I was at the pump today and almost pressed the wrong button. I usually put 87 octane in when driving normally and 89 when towing. I noticed on the pump that they put the 87 in the middle and the plus on the left. I believe this was probably done to cause people to "accidently" buy the more expensive gas.
Buy the way, does anyone have the winning lottery numbers? I figure since some on here have NEVER made a mistake, they might know the answer to this as well.

Going through the city of Chattanooga itself, we downshifted a few times. Not sure what the grade is, but once you are out of the city, it is fine.

RE: 2009 / 2010 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 - Anyone towing with one?

Yes I realize the two models you mentioned have different ratio, but I am generalizing.
Let's take Ford for example. I guess if I had the choice between an F150 reg cab 4x2 automatic with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears and an F-250 reg cab, auto with the 5.4 and the 3.73 gears, then the OBVIOUS choice would be the F-150 right?? After all, with the F-250, I can tow 10200 lbs, but with the 150, I can tow up to 11300 lbs. Now why in the world would I ever spend the money to buy a 3/4 ton, when the 1/2 ton will be just fine? I don't need bigger brakes, the trailer brakes will stop me just fine. I don't need bigger suspension, that's what a WD hitch is for. I don't need the higher load range tires. I don't mind a little roll in the corners. It keeps me on my toes so I don't fall asleep while towing. It is very easy to do since I won't even feel the trailer back there.

RE: 2009 / 2010 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 - Anyone towing with one?

The 1500 should be fine towing that trailer. If you are trying to decide between the two, I would go with the 2500. Don't let those tow ratings fool you. There are a lot of posts on this forum about the inflated towing specs of the 1500 / 150 models. I mean come on, how can a manufacturer advertise a 1500 model truck with a higher tow rating than their 2500 model truck and keep a straight face?? Yes I realize the two models you mentioned have different ratio, but I am generalizing.

RE: I--think--I--can, I--think--I--can

TT wouldn't think would be more than 1000Lbs.
Just to clarify, that 1000 lbs is for everything in your truck, not just the tongue.

RE: I--think--I--can, I--think--I--can

Keystone Bullet 246RBS
GVW: 6,019
Dry: 4,800
Payload Cap: 2,019
Hitch weight: 415
Tow Vehicle
2003 Chevy 1500 Texas Edition / 5.3L / 3:42 + tow package
GVWR: 6200
GCVWR: 12000
Max Tow: 7100
Payload 1791
GAWR: front 3600 / Rear 3626
Actual TV Weights(Cat Scales)
Steer Axle: 2100 LBS
Drive Axle: 3060 LBS
Actual weight: 5160 LBS
Is the GVWR on the TT a typo? Dry weight of 4800 plus CCC of 2019 equals a GVWR of 6819 not 6019. If it IS 6819, then you have about 20 lbs of capacity for your wife and any kids. If you weigh 200 lbs instead of 150, then you'll be overweight. Once that is cleared up, you will have about 1000 lbs for tongue weight, wife, you (if you are over 150) and fuel, cargo, etc. You could probably do it if you are very careful about what you pack, but I'm not sure how well you will enjoy the tow.
On the other hand, if you have the means and the desire to purchase a new truck, then go ahead and get the TT and take it on a trip. If it doesn't tow very well, that will be some ammunition for you to convince the wife that you NEED a new truck. It worked for me on my last rig.:B

RE: Wheel Well Protection?

Although I think that it would be a good idea, it won't protect from all blowouts. Depending on how bad the tire separates, and how fast you are going, etc., you could have siding damage as well. My parents had a blowout and it did some pretty good damage to their aluminum sided trailer. Good thing is ...their insurance covered it.

RE: Trail Bay 27 DS

I agree about the price points as mentioned above. I also think that entry level is in the eye of the beholder. Think of it like automobiles. For example, a dodge ram has several models to choose. Base, ST, SXT, SLT, Laramie, etc. One might consider the ST an entry level because it doesn't have power windows, locks, etc. It does have cruise, tilt, carpet, and things like that so it IS a step above the base model. So if you owned a true base model vehicle, then the ST would be sort of an upgrade, but if all you've ever owned is an SLT, Laramie, or maybe a Ford King Ranch, then obviously the ST model would be an entry-level truck...to you.

RE: Equalizer hitch bar sockets

The reason they are tight is for the sway control. If they were loose, it would be just a WD hitch.

RE: Double check my work, please

Andrew, I was the first in your post to bring up the 3/4 ton suspension. I do not know if those comments are directed towards me or not. I still stand by recommendation that a TT of 10,000# needs to be on 3/4 ton suspension as a minimum. There is more to this then weight ratings. If you look at my posts, I’m more concerned about stability and controlling the TT then pulling, however pulling is also important.
Just for the record, my comments were not intended to insult anyone. You made some very good points. I was just trying to throw a little humor in the mix. You know how these posts go, someone asks about pulling with a truck they currently own, then next thing you know, the weight police come on here saying that they should just go out and buy a 3/4 ton, or a 1 ton. I'm not sure about you, but I don't have 50 grand laying around to just drop on a new truck everytime someone suggests it.
We all gotta laugh every now and then.

RE: Double check my work, please

Thanks John, Tons of great info there.
Here's a few more details about my TV:
2007 GMC Sierra Vortec Max 1500
6.0L 367hp 370TQ
4.10 gears
wheelbase: 143.5"
Super duty 4speed transmission
9.5 inch heavy duty rear axle
Reinforced frame
You should have NEVER mentioned this information. You were fine with your weights and you should have had no problems whatsoever....UNTIL you mentioned that you had a 1500. Now that you mentioned it, there is NO WAY that your truck will pull anything heavier than a popup. You are in 450/4500 territory now. Have you looked at the MDT trucks. I bet you can get a nice used one for a little more than a loaded out F450. :B
Sorry I couldn't help myself. Just saving time and getting this over with. LOL

RE: Potential Roof Problems on 1 Week Old Trailer-advice?

I seriously doubt that you will get a new unit. If they have to re-truss, then let them do the repairs, then make an inspection afterwards to make sure everything looks OK.
Mine is less than six months old and had a leak before I bought it. They corrected the problem with the trim and found some other trim issues as well. They replaced the entire roof, all plastic vent covers, and resealed everything. They fixed it and corrected some other problems that surely would have developed into leaks in the future.

RE: permanent drill charger in TT

Thanks for the replies. I kind of figured it wouldn't work that simply. Just looking for some ideas to charge the drill while going down the road. I have an inverter, but if I put it in the TT, that would suck up some juice just to charge a drill. I could just put it in the tow vehicle and charge, but I have enough stuff lying around while traveling...dvd player, video games, etc. Just trying to clean it up a bit.

permanent drill charger in TT

I was wondering if anyone has installed a permanent charger for a cordless drill in the TT. I have a drill that is a Black and Decker 12 volt model. It has the wall transformer with a wire that goes directly to the drill, so the battery has to be plugged in to the drill to charge it. My TT has a rear garage with lights inside. I was thinking that maybe I could cut the transformer off and direct wire it from one of the lights in the garage. Maybe a speaker wiring jack could be mounted on the wall next to the light to accept the bare wires when I want to charge it, and I could easily unplug it when not needed. While I'm traveling, the TV will be charging the TT battery including the drill that's plugged into it. Then it would be freshly charged when arriving at the campsite and need it most. Has anyone done something like this? I'm looking for ideas and also the negatives about doing it this way. Thanks.

RE: Need Opinions on a Leak repair - Update

Final update. Just go the trailer back today. They replaced the whole roof, every vent, all the trim, gutters, even put new gutter extensions on it (mine were broken). They found a few other issues with the way the trim was put on, so they pretty much replaced everything. That's what I call service!!

RE: Giveing up on my new truck!

The problem with your current truck is mostly the axle ratio. 3.73 is not a towing ratio by any means.
Says who??? Mine tows beautifully.
Ok, perhaps I should be more clear:
3.73 is not a tow ratio for heavy towing with a gas engine with a higher RPM power band.
3.73 would work ok on a diesel with a lower RPM power band.
Again the lower cost and effective solution for the OPs problem is to change to a lower axle ratio that will allow the smaller gas engine to operate in it's power band.
Not trying to start an argument here, but mine IS a gas engine with a higher RPM powerband and as I said before, it tows beautifully. Don't get me wrong, I can't go around towing 12000 lb loads, but my truck isn't rated for that anyway. I still think that the OP has something set up wrong on his truck (sway) and/or he has the expectations of a diesel.
