RE: Ontario Parks - Self Fulfiling Prophecy of Extinction

If they are always fully booked(and they are),what do you expect? Look at it from a taxpayer but non user view point"I own it and I expect you to maximize my take" Drive a few hours farther north and find parks mostly deserted.Yup provincal parks where no reservations are needed, drive up pick a site. When we were at the RV show yesterday, we stopped at the Ontario Parks booth and began chatting with the young gentleman who was there. We mentioned the prices going up -- yes, they are going up but the highest price is for a premium site in the popular parks. AS you mentioned, the prices are graduated depending on where you go. Also, prices differentiate depending on time of year. Summer tends to be most expensive as most people camp during the summer. Now, we did mention that Ontario Parks -- (and he did take this as a suggestion) (he said he writes the suggestions and brings them to his boss), -- offer some kind of loyalty program (maybe offering a free night of camping after so many days as an example).

RE: Toronto RV Show

We were there. We enjoyed looking at the trailers, the motorhomes (they were a lot of fun but way out of our price range). Only things we bought were a set of hangers and rv toilet paper! Oh and hubby bought some sausages from the hickory farm fellow.

RE: Retired!!!

Congratulations on your retirement! I've got 5 months and 2 weeks to go! Anyway, let retirement take you wherever your little heart desires. There are some really good suggestions in this post!

RE: favorite ontario campgrounds

White river,Obatanga,Pukasaw,Neys,Kakabaka all for the same reason, far enough from metro Toronto so they aren't 'loved' to death :D LOL Actually, I have never been camping at White River, Obatanga or Pukasaw (just visited) but have been to Neys and Kakabeka. We're hoping to do it this summer--we're thinking of the Lake Superior Circle Tour.

RE: 3 hours, 29 minutes, 41 seconds*

I noticed we had a bit more light last night (7 seconds more). I was very happy when the shortest day passed us by the other day. Spring is coming!

RE: Said Goodbye to the HTT; it's now 4 Wall Camping for us...

Congratulations! We went from a pup to a TT and skipped the hybrid route as we felt it was the same problem as the pup -- wet, damp etc. Wish we had campgrounds around here that were still open so we could use our TT for much longer than we do.

RE: Airstream no better than others

Forty years from now that Airstream will still be on the road doing what it was designed to do. All the other trailers sold this year will be long gone. Just because there are a few glitches early on does not mean that it is a deficient product, nor should it be categorized with those that will never make the distance. Everything needs some attention to detail and maintenance to keep it going. I am discouraged to hear about the customer service, warranty stuff and lack of enthuasium from dealers for previous purchasers. Too bad, it has been the travel trailer icon for serious RVers for 75+ years. But don't you think that in the long run, if quality is that bad, that people would have the smarts to NOT buy the product. Also, in my opinion, NOTHING is made to last forever.

RE: Duro Tire Failure

I'd be talking to the DEALER if the trailer was new. If it's used you'll probably be stuck with dealing with the tire company. When purchasing a used trailer you have no idea of how the tire has been used and whether or not the inflation has been kept right (in the past) which could be seen as a cause of the accident. While it's not LIKELY to ACTUALLY BE the cause it could be their out. Duro IS used to handling these type of claims though and do yourself a BIG favor and get rid of the REST of their tires from your trailer before towing it again. If I read the OP correctly, he said "brand new" so I guess he needs to talk to the dealer as well as the tire manufacturer.

RE: Winter storage

I have mixed feelings about a concrete pad. It is expensive and difficult to modify should you sell the RV or sell the property. We can easily turn it into a patio area since it overlooks a garden.

RE: Winter storage

We put a concrete pad down by the house this summer and our TT is now stored on this pad. Sorry, I don't have pics!

RE: The pink stuff has gone in....

Yes, our camping season is over. We will now live vicariously through those who are still camping and will be camping over the winter.

RE: What do YOU take out for winter storage?

Bedroom - Everything is emptied from ALL the closets, drawers & under the bed. Sheets & spread are washed, then put into the airtight (vacuum-type) bags and then placed in a 15 gallon tote. Bathroom - Everything is emptied from the medicine cabinet & re-cycled into the household items - towels and rugs are washed and then follow the airtight bag & tote routine as above. Kitchen - Everything is emptied from ALL closets - food is recycled into household items - dishes, pots, pans, silverware, etc - are washed - then placed into a tote. Living Area - TV, DVD into house (spare bedroom for winter guests) all games, cards, toys & such into a tote. Outside storage - Everything is removed.....nothing is left in any outside cabinet. Once all totes are organized and have fabric softener (Downy) sheets put in each they are stored in the TT - about 5 total. Downy sheets are put throughout the interior and exterior.....Dri-Eze containers are put into the kitchen sink and the shower area.....clam bags (or old knee hi's (ask your wife) are filled with moth balls and HUNG around the outside of the TT. DH washes roof and exterior - I clean all the interior including the rugs & oven before we tow it off to storage. We also store in a barn, with a concrete floor....however there are many cats roaming around the farm and they sure do not look underfed (LOL). It takes us about one full day to do all this and in the spring we have less going back into the TT ... if we didn't use it during the summer - it didn't get packed into any tote! Been doing this routine for the past 4 years...... I'm exhausted just reading this!

RE: A Mouse Trick

Just wanted to share a little mouse trick with all of you as winter storage time comes upon us. For the last eight years, there is one trick we always do. We take a few small cups. Fill them about hamfway w/ cotton balls, Then saturate the cotton balls w/ peppermint extract (found in your baking aisle). Cover the cups with either lids or celophane and puncture w/small holes. In our pop up, we used about 4 cups throughout. Not once in eight years did we ever have a mouse issue. Different storage areas, some inside, some out. The best part is the camper smells really nice when you open it back up. Take care and happy winterizing Just trying to understand -- mice don't like the smell?

RE: What do YOU take out for winter storage?

We finished winterizing today. I took all the food stuff out and clothing but left sheets, pillows and towels in storage bins. Hubby blew out the lines, put pink antifreeze in the traps and toilet and drains. We also covered our A/C and tires. This year, it is in "storage" at my mom's place -- we paid for and had someone make a concrete pad this summer for the trailer to sit on. Just need to slope it a bit so the snow and rain will go off the roof. Oh, and I'm not happy about winterizing but what can you do when you live where we do? Winter camping is NOT an option for me.

RE: Cabin vs Travel Trailer

I like referring to my TT as our cabin on wheels.

RE: Rainy Weather/Cool Temps.

Actually, El nino if it is fairly strong brings a mild winter up here. It will be interesting to see what plays out this year.

RE: New to travel trailers

Congratulations on your TT. I don't miss the pup, the bunkends. We also don't have a slide out and there is plenty of room for the two of us.
