RE: best quality low-end travel trailer & internet warranty

Vangor, you may want to look at your tow vehicle first and work backwards from there. That will help limit what you're looking at and maybe reduce some of the "blur" you're having! :) On my next unit I'm picking out the trailer first then buying the truck based on that. If this is what you're doing...way cool..I envy you, but I'll be there in a few years!! :)

RE: Power Awning Question

I like mine, but the only issue I have is cleaning it..I miss being able to tilt it down to scrub it.

RE: hot water heater in travel trailer

Been there..done that! Pop the outside cover and hit the flip switch on the tank! :) Mine is kinda hidden behind the burner tube, so I have to use a screwdriver to flip it.

RE: Ladybugs.....

The more ladybugs that show up in the fall = more snowfall during the winter! Least that has been my experience the past few years! Lots of them this year and we had 2 snows!

RE: Is safety inspection required in SC?

No inspections in SC. Taxes are 4% of current book value. Tag and registration are included in tax notice. My tax/registration/tag this past year was $289. Take care of everything at the local tax assessor office. Let DMV mail you tags and stickers! Will save you some time. Also, when you do your trailer, ask them about your house. If it your primary residence, make sure they have it taxed at 3% and not 6%. They don't always tell you to do this when buying.

RE: I need some RV decals/graphics

Mobile, You could always park it beside a railroad track for a few days. I'm sure someone would put some graphics on it for free!! LOL :)

RE: Forest River's Emergency Roadside Assistance

I had a similar plan but it only covered the TT, not the TV. All my cars came with some sort of roadside assistance but I've always carried AAA because it covers ME, and not just my car. I don't know how many times I've used it when traveling with someone else to get their care fixed! Now if ERS would do that, I'd switch!

RE: Listening to IPod through vehicle's radio signal

Make sure the tramsmitter cord is not coiled. I've found that increases the static. Also the closer I have the actual transmitter to the radio, the better it works.

RE: Monitoring temperature in MH

ADT has a cellular system that will notify you in the event of an alarm. I had one installed in my office a couple of years ago. Of course ADT will want to monitor it, but you can have various sensors installed such as water, heat, fire, entry, etc...cost to install the system was about $1200.00 and monthly fees run about $75.00 It uses an actual cell phone signal to call in the event of an alarm condition. I'm sure once you complete the initial term with ADT, you could modify the system to directly call you.

RE: This a poll, just answer YES or NO,

I have never understood people complaining about something that they did not pay one red cent for. Do you really have any clue as to what it costs to keep a site up and running such as this?? I do. I am an IT director for a school district and I do this on a daily basis. Look at some of the basics: A nice server such as a Dell or HP with a raid 5 config..$10,000 min and most likely there are multiple servers for load balancing and redundency. Backup systems...$20,000.00 depending of size. SAN for data storage. 5TB runs about $15,000. True network storage costs much more that what you and I pay for a portable USB drive at Best Buy, And don't forget the network...when was the last time any of you purchased true Cisco Catalyst switches and routers? You're looking at a $100,000.00 depending on capabilities. Gotta pay for bandwidth so the site is available...that's another $10,000.00 per year. Software license agreements and maint. fees...that could be another $20,000 per year. Programmers and Technicians to keep all this running...another $100,000.00 per year. And last but not least, virus protection so the scumbags out there trying to infect your computers can't do it from this site. $15,000.00 per year. I don't think any of you would want to pay a true membership fee if there were no advertisements. It'd be like making a monthly car payment. The folks running this are darn sure not making a profit here...they are nice enough to give us a place to chat and discuss and post pictures and whatever else goes on here and if an advertisment helps the bottom line and keeps the site up so we can continue to to have this area, by all means they should do it.

RE: Locked out!

Been there too! Flagged down a group of little ones riding their bikes and boosted one through a window so the door could be opened! Cost me a round of Cokes and Little Debbie cakes for the whole group!

RE: So uhhhh, this is expensive... Stocking our first TT

Remember your weight as you stock it! One thing we do to help with this is not carry food with us. We keep some basic staples in the rig such as Kool-Aid and basic spices, but all other food is purchased when we get where we're going. We plan our meals out while traveling to the site! Another thing we do is we do is save extra ketchup packets we may get from fast food joints and carry those with us to use during camping. That way we don't waste our refer space with those big bottles.

RE: Replace dinette

We're going to replace one side (door side) of the dinette with regular chairs. Can't pull the entire thing because the heater is under one side. Replacing the sofa with two recliners. Will loose a bit of storage under the sofa, but it's worth it to be more comfortable.

RE: 50amp to 30amp

Man, this is almost as bad as ford vs chevy vs dodge vs gas vs diesel! :) With this many responses, I think I'd go find me a certified electrical contractor and ask the question of him...or her! :) That way if something goes wrong you've got someone to go put your hands on!! LOL

RE: Outside sink option for my Travel Trailer

Nice looking rig Luke. Did you get that around here? I've been thinking of building a table that attaches on the back of the spare mount on the bumper. Something out of stainless and use it for the grill setup or washing using tubs. My outside shower is in that location, so hot/cold water is readily available.

RE: For non-retirees; how do you justify it?

I have this big white box sitting in my yard that's costing me $3000 per year. In the past 18 months I've spent about 30 days in it at a cost of $900.00 Worst "investment" I ever made. But you know what, it's mine..well kinda! :) And I can go right now, hitch up and take off to a place where I can sit under my awning and watch the fish jump, the deer walk by and other wildlife running around. A place where I can make lifelong friends in a few mins. A place where I can go and just relax. And that was our delimma when we decided to do this. $3900.00 per year..that's quite a few weekend hotel trips. I have yet to find a hotel where I can do these things... So we made the "investment". We could have done this cheaper by staying in a tent, but then mama wouldn't have been happy...and well, you all know what they say about mama! :) You and your partner go have fun..we've only got around 26,000 days here..make the most of them. That's my 2 cents...
