RE: Removing radio in my 2006 Seneca

Update. Thanks to all for their input. I have completed the removal and installation of a new radio. The dash does come apart and go back together, it takes courage to just pull it apart but this does work and it goes back together easily. You just line up the clips and push. The wiring harness is another issue. Cructhfield sent me all I needed and more. They were also very helpful. I wound up not using the harness they sent which was made for a Chevy Silverado. Since there was a harness in place for an aftermarket radio and I found that the chimes worked even when the radio was removed I just cut off the 16 pin connector to the radio off and spliced in the one for the replacement radio matching the wires by color. The radio works just as I had hoped it would, all speakers work. I highly recommend Crutchfield, they were patient and informative. The job was doable and if you feel comfortable and don't like the Jayco radio, go ahead and replace it. Thanks, Bill

RE: Blowing out water lines question

I have used compressed air for a few years now. As you, I was concerned about the pump so I would run a little antifreeze into the pump using the same procedure recommended for sanitizing. This made me more comfortable. However, this season I decided to eliminate this step and just open all drains around the pump, blow lots of air through until no more mist came out. I then ran the pump 30-60 seconds until it sounded as if there wasn't any water in it. I hope this works because my pump is not easily accessed either. Good luck, Bill

RE: Removing radio in my 2006 Seneca

I have been in touch with Cructhfield and they were great. Spent lots of time and covered many things including whether there is an amp in the system which powers the extra speakers. This I couldn't answer so I am asking how your installations went and if anyone knows about an extra amp. They explained that with a special harness the chimes will work and that in some states they are required for inspection. They are treating this as a Chevy Silverado dash because they don't have info on the Kodiak. Does this make sense? Thanks, Bill

RE: Removing radio in my 2006 Seneca

I have the dash apart,( hope I can get it back together) and the radio removed. I have been online trying to find a replacement and it seems it may be more difficult than I expected. Craig thanks for your input but I already have a GPS. What I want is a decent radio, CD player, and EXM- Sirius combo that fits. Any suggestions will be welcome. THanks, Bill

Removing radio in my 2006 Seneca

I have finally had it with the radio in my Seneca. I believe it is the magnadyne that some have complained about, the complaints are justified. I need help regarding the removal. How do I go about getting it out of the dash? I know there are many handy and helpful people out there and I thank you in advance. Recommendations about what to replace it with would also be appreciated. Bill

RE: Seneca fiberglass roof-leak

I am a believer and user of eternabond, however I am concerned about the removal of it if you need to replace a roof vent. How do you remove it especially on a fiberglass roof? Bill

RE: Front End Clunking Sound Seneca 35GS

Mine too. Annoying but hopefully harmless. There is comfort in numbers. Bill

RE: 2008 Jayco Seneca 35GS Trailer Wiring Problems

Do you have brake lights on the Seneca and does you cruise control work? If not, you could have a problem with your brake light switch. This has been a big problem on the Kodiak. Good luck, Bill

RE: Seneca Information from Seneca owners

I have found that the handling improved when I moved as much weight forward as I could. I also found that it was very touchy when I tried 110 lbs in the front tires. I reduced to 95 lbs and it was much better. I think it is a good idea to have it weighed if you haven't. Good luck, Bill

RE: Slide out on unlevel ground?

I agree, level it. It is much easier to retract if it is level, if not you may find it retracts unevenly or not at all. You don't want it to stall out or skip a cog if it is working very hard. The motors are not real powerful for all they are trying to move. Bill

RE: nitrogen filled tires

I may be wrong about my source, it may not be AAA. I read recently that it is regarded as a waste of money by some group and thought it was AAA, but I am unable to confirm that. It may have been somewhere else. If they charge extra for it don't bother. Bill

AAA says nitrogen in your tires is a waste of money. Bill

RE: Speed up to save fuel!!

We all know there are many variables which are difficult to account for. Many have been mentioned here and I agree with all of them. There isn't much talk of fuel, with gas there are many variables depending on where you are. Along the east coast there are places where you have a maximum of 10% ethanol and others where there is none. Assuming max 10% means from 0-10% you never know how much you are getting. I do know that the amount makes a big difference. There are places in the country where it varies even more than here. Another factor is how full is your tank? That involves variables also, the slope of the pad when you fill. They are not all level. I don't know much about diesel, this may be more standardized but I don't know. When you take into account the amount of variables, I have concluded: drive the speed which is most comfortable for you depending on the conditions and don't worry about the variables you can't control. This is supposed to be fun,at least that is what I keep telling myself. Bill

RE: Roof leak A/C

Snugging bolts and screws is always a good idea in a condo that goes down the road at 60+mph. When I think of all the vibration our coaches sustain, I routinely check bolts and screws and I am always surprised to find more places to look. I just found the bolts on both of my AC units very loose. I hope that is the source of your leak because it is an easy fix. I have reached a point where when I find something loose I apply a dab of glue (usually super glue gel, or goop) and tighten it down and then feel secure in it's security. I have found that if I want to loosen it for any reason the super glue bond is easily breakable. Good Luck, Bill

RE: carry an air compressor?

I carry one and haven't needed it for a personal emergency, but have helped out others who did. I would rather be ready and not need it, just like any other insurance policy. There are many adequate compressors available that don't take a lot of space and they are not expensive. Bill

RE: Do you wash your roof

I wonder how many home owners with rubber membrane roofs have ever washed them or even thought about washing them. Bill

RE: It Fits Barely

I'd say you did a great job, congratulations and good luck in the future. Be aware that those plastic front wheel covers are fragile and break easily. They also cost about 40$ apiece, I speak from experience. I hit a high curb and the cover blew apart, it was all too easy to do. Bill

RE: "Brakes" Alarm going off intermittently

I had the same problem plus the cruise control didn't work. I finally found a mechanic who listened and asked me to step on the brakes, he said there were no brake lights, when I mentioned the cruise control he said that was related to the brake light switch failure. They checked the wiring harness for over heating damage and replaced the switch and this solved the problem. He said it was a common problem and that they had redesigned the switch. I hope this does solve it. I also feel when your brake lights fail and you are unaware, this should be a safety recall. Bill

RE: Seneca shocks?

FMCA reported that Bilsteins were the best value, price to performance. I used Bilsteins 3 years ago on mine and i'm very satisfied. Bill

RE: Slideout Awnings

On the vehicle front-end of the awning cap; there is a bolt in the center of the end-cap. I believe it is an allen type bolt. Mine loosened, allowing the awning to wobble as it retracted and to move in heavy winds when extended. Get up on a step ladder and look at the front cap and you should see a hole in the center and an allen head bolt, check it for tightness. I suppose on some other awnings this bolt could be located on the rear cap as well, so if you don't find it at one end look at the other. Good luck, Bill
