RE: Diesel Stops Rawlins to Yellowstone Hwy 287

In Dubois, as you head west from downtown, there is a station called BULLS that you should be able to get into. It will be on your left and the pumps are parallel to the road. Its on a corner at the entrance to the KOA. If you need an overnight the Longhorn RV just East of town is very nice.

RE: tekonsha p3 problem

If it is moisture a shot of WD-40 should be a temporary fix.
WD-40 History.
It took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. But they must have been really good, because the original secret formula for WD-40®—which stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try—is still in use today.

RE: Trailer Tires Help - Overloaded from Search

What part of Louisiana are you in?
Be sure and get new valve stems.
I prefer Radials. They tow better and run cooler. I think Bias are more suited for a utility trailer at lower speeds while Radials are better on the highway.

RE: Trailer Tires Help - Overloaded from Search

Just a little information first. Your tires are:
ST = Special Trailer
205/75 = Tire size
D = Bias Tire
15 = Rim Diam
(C) = Load Range - Max 50 psi
Wheel is 15/5 which is 5in wide.
You want to go to a Radial Tire. ST205/75R15(C)
As far as I know you can only get a (C) rated tire in that size.
This will give a max load of 1820lbs per tire or 7280lbs Max. Your axles are rated at 7000lbs Max so you have a small cushion.
You need to weight your TT fully loaded to determine the real cushion you have.
If you need to go up in size for a greater cushion, there may be a problem. Here are the choices.
ST225/75R15(C) - rated at 2150lbs per tire - 50psi
ST225/75R15(D) - rated at 2540lbs per tire - 65psi
The 5in width of you rims probably wont work with the ST225 tires.
Also the rim may not be rated for 65psi if you went with the (D) rated.
Here is a link to tire load table, so you can see what I am talking about.
Load Table
If I have confused you please post back. But the first step is to load you TT and get the weight on the axles.

RE: I-70 closed in Colorado

That section is basically a bridge so the supports have to be inspected and if damaged it will take a while to repair.

RE: Lake Charles, LA to Texas Gulf Coast

Thanks,
We have DD living in Ingleside (near Aransas Pass) and normally blast through Houston on I-10 and 59. May have to give the Galveston route a try on next trip. We normally stop in Beaumont at Gulf Coast RV to visit kin in Port Arthur and stock up on Boudin at Nicks Grocery.

RE: Question about freezing temperatures and risk . . .

This winter our local weather man stated that pipes would freeze if it stayed at 28 or below for 5 hrs. He called this a Hard Freeze. Might try some weather sites and see if they may have some information.

RE: Going from west FL to Keys...SR 41 or I 75??

So, I take 951 south at the I75 101 exit?
Is that or the west part of 41 jammed up with traffic and stop lightas?
951 will bypass most of the Naples traffic. It is stating to grow out there with a few lights and shopping centers but is the way to go. We stayed a couple of nights at Club Naples which is near the I75/951 intersection and I think had a Passport America discount. We based there to visit Naples and then headed to the Keys. There are other campgrounds South on 951 toward Margo Island but never made it there. We took 41 to 997 and down to Hwy-1. More traffic on 997 and it goes through downtown Homestead and Florida City but is not bad.

RE: Lake Charles, LA to Texas Gulf Coast

We always take I-10 to Winnie (Beaumont is not a problem to drive through), and then take 124 south to 87,and then to Port Bolivar (to avoid Houston, which IS a problem to drive through!). The free ferry takes you over to Galveston Island (you will have NO TROUBLE getting on the ferry....these are huge). Then take 3005 to 257, all the way down to Surfside Beach where you turn onto 322. Take any of several routes to Hwy. 35 going toward Bay City, and follow that south to Rockport/Fulton, Aransas Pass, across to Port Aransas, and along Mustang Island to Corpus Christi. Make sure you save a few days (or longer) to visit the Padre Island National Seashore that you get to from Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. You can either camp at their RV park, or right on the beach. Beautiful area and nice overnight RV parks along the way.
By the way, you'll REALLY appreciate the lack of congestion.....especially after driving through Florida's coastal traffic! That's what brought us to the area, and kept us here!
Do you have an update on the status of the road (3005) West of Galveston? I know it got destroyed in the big storm and were running traffic on the beach. I would hope it has been repaired by now.

RE: Emergency Road Service - Comparing Good Sam vs Coach-Net

Coincindental, friend of mine had his Dodge 2500 stop on him today down here in Florida on the highway while driving it. He called G/S, they sent a rollback. It took him to a Dodge dealership in Ft.Meyers 6 miles away from his point of breakdown. The dealership was not open. They then took his truck to Arcadia about 25 miles East to a Ford dealership. They were open and gave him a loaner. However the point I am getting to here is G/S would only pay for the initial 6 mile tow. The tow to an open garage, they would not pay, he had to pay that out of his own pocket. I have never heard of this before, and it has never happened to me. Is this a change in rules and coverage?
You better read your contract. They ALL will tow you to the NEAREST qualified repair facility. It does not have to be open. If you want to go somewhere else you pay for the additional millage.

RE: Lamar Dixon Expo Center

To avoid the Baton Rouge traffic the Lamar Dixon is the best. There are 3 other campgrounds within 25 mi and you would take the back roads to Gonzales. The first is Poche Plantation in Convent. It is a straight shot on HWY-44 south of Gonzales and about a 30min drive. The other 2 are Lakeside Rv near I-12 and the KOA in Denham Springs and both of these you would take back roads through Port Vincent and should be about 45min drive. This is just in case Lamar Dixon doesn't work out.

RE: Gulfshores,AL, are dogs allowed on beach?

There is one that the locals use. Go down toward Ft Morgan on Hwy 180 and about MM-15 (about 9mi from Hwy 59) on the left is Mobile St and it goes through Bon Secure Wildlife Refuge. At the end of the road is a small parking lot and a boardwalk to the beach. It is a long secluded beach since it is next to the Wildlife Refuge. When we went everybody there had their dogs along.
Here are two pics taken in March 2007.
