RE: Uh-Oh.....found a leak, now what?!!!

Good suggestion for the leak fix etc....BUT when you git it fixed, find a way to store the MH under a roof when not in use -- if any way possible.

RE: Which one would you buy

Buy the bus. Easy decision. That is - if it checks out. The Bus probably has a 400 in it and the Phaeton probably doesn't - that includes a lot of "upgrades" over the smaller engines...... If it passed my inspection and my wife's the --- Have it checked by a reputable mechanic - I would take it to Cummins myself and I would not buy it without having it checked out..........If the engine has had work done and it was done by a Cummins factory shop - I would not worry about it. They can tell you if they have worked on it because it will be in their computer.

RE: Sewer Drains opened or closed

I am the different one here, I keep both closed, I dump about every 3 days or so. I had left the grey open at other parks and got sewer flies and other times the grey tank did not get rinsed well by leaving it open and it smelled bad, real bad. I keep them both closed and dump often. This seems to work best for me but I do have a 60 gallon grey and a 40 gallon black tank. Not that different really...We keep both valves closed for the same reasons. I have also seen a sewer stoppage down the line somewhere cause sewage to overflow out the pipe of other sites. I guess this could back up into your tank if the conditions were right....I have also removed the hose before and seen little flies coming out of the ground pipe....If your gray valve is open what keeps the flies from getting into your gray tank and maybe even getting into the coach?

RE: Delimma: Keep class A or trade to a TT

You already own the Scottsdale. Depending on what state you live in, you will pay taxes on the new TT and the tow vehicle. I also think you will miss the convenience and amenities of the Scottsdale....I would redesign the interior to fit my needs and keep what I remove so in a couple of years you can put it back like you had it for you and the wife. I had a Scottsdale and they are a good value for the money. Could you just replace the LR sofa with something better suited for you?

RE: Problems With Too Few Miles On A Diesel???

I would get a mechanic to check it over before purchase and not worry further. I think this stuff about "too few miles" is a little overdone....I would prefer it over one with 100K miles...If you like it, get it checked out by a Cummins factory shop and go for it.

RE: Independent Inspection or Not?

I looked at a CC one time that I was told was PERFECT,,,,I got to looking and whaen all the compartment doors were open, you could see a line there about half way up the door...also all the electric below the line was new and replaced.....Guess waht - It had been flooded.....get an independent inspection...it could save you thousands of dollars....Take your time and do it right and don't worry if it sells or they don't like it...there are lots more out there. Don't buy it without an inspection is my suggestion.

RE: I didn't notice alot of RV's on my last road trip.....

The park we are at right now is full...I was in the office and someone was trying to extend their stay and were having a problem because of others coming in with reservations. We have seen plenty of motorhomes. If you are going to travel, it is the only way really.

RE: Ball joints on a Spatran Chassis need advice

I had mine checked recently on my annual maintenance at a Spartan shop and they were fine at 40K miles. The mechanic said that the rubber boot deteriorates quickly sometimes but he sees motorhomes with bad rubber boots and over 100K miles on them....he said that a lot of salt could be bad under there though but I don't drive in salt. This is from a chassis mechanic that does only motorhome chassis work 24/7 and is a Spartan Center Rep... It does take very special tools to do it but I understand they loan them out to Spartan shops... Rather than asking this on a forum, I would call Spartan and talk to the service guys there. They have answered questions from me before and have always been very helpful and free with information. They are great people to work with. Personally, I would have them changed out. I have heard of others having them replaced at about 80K to 100K miles --- so it is not an altogether uncommon issue. Go to the Yahoo Newmarowners site and you will find more information there. If mine ever needs it, I will probably bite the bullet and take it to the factory.

RE: Drinking from fresh water tank...

We shower with fresh tank water and other uses also,,,we don't drink it. We buy spring water by the gallon to drink....to each his/her own....I ain't about to drink water out of that tank.

RE: Workhorse Brake Recall Status

Who cares what Ford is using...To try to drag Ford into the hole that Workhorse has dug for itself is just ridiculous....So what if Ford does use them, that just makes it worse for Workhorse and Workhorse owners in that I guess they now have to start looking for another cause for the problem if the same parts are not causing Ford problems. This has been going on far too long. I wouldn't buy one - even if I was using your money....if I had to drive it. In my opinion, they should have fixed this long ago....it BRAKES a 20,000 lb. mass with a family inside and other families in front on the highway and I hear you are told to pull over and let them cool down, check them and go on down the road - how dumb is that --- good grief.

RE: 3 point hydraulic leveling system

We'd look at air level if we had a choice.. I've never experienced air leveling. I hear it's wonderful and stable, but I can't help think that it would tend to rock and move a lot, just like when the rig is sitting on the air bags in travel mode. When used for leveling, what prevents the air bags from acting like the air springs that they are? I have experienced it and you are right...air leveling moves back and forth with high winds and even with somebody walking from one side to the other...It is not severe but it is noticeable.

RE: J-B weld?

JB works great and also does not harden in the tube after opened and become useless and a waste of money like superglue type glues will.

RE: People want a longer coach and some want a shorter coach

It seems people could do just as you did and post something in the Class A Forum and say -- Hey, I have a 31' Class A and want a 36' Class A and if somebody out there wants to trade - let me know.

RE: Do you think the RV market will ever get back on track?

I was born and raised in UK, travelled throughout europe and last year decided to move our family to Colorado. This is still the greatest country on earth and the sooner US citizens realise that fact and stop buying foreign products the better. amen...and x2

RE: Condensation on front windshield remedies please....

Go to Sears and buy a dehumidifier...One of the best things we added a long time ago. A lot of humidity is caused by showers and by cooking ---buy a dehumidifier. They are great.

RE: Where have all the used toads gone....

We have a Liberty and it works great. Tows easily and will go anywhere...When we travel sometimes we get off the beaten path and I have not been anywhere the Jeep would not go....I also sometimes pull my boat with it when we are at home and a lot of the toads won't do that - or they have a limited capacity and one of the tiny hitches.

RE: Front Kitchen DP's

We don't own one, but it would seem awkward to me if you had guests and wanted to use the front leather chairs. They would be completely out of the conversation and picture. We have people use our front chairs at times as they swivel around to the conversation area. You could put other guests in the dining chairs I guess but I have yet to see a comfortable one to sit in for any length of time. What if one of you wanted to sit in a recliner or chair instead of the sofas? My wife and I sometimes have a discussion to get the big recliner in ours because we get tired of the sofa all the time. Just a thought and only looked at King Aire.

RE: 3 point hydraulic leveling system

What it amounts to is if you have the 3 point system they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you have the best which is HWH 4 point jacks you would not have a MH with the 3 point. I had one with 3 point before I knew what they were, I will never own another one, if it does not have HWH jacks you can't give it to me. Ditto...3 point advantage = cheaper...not better or nearly as good. HWH makes both types and even says on their website that 3 point is not as easy to operate and needs more level ground. >>Go to the HWH website here - http://www.hwhcorp.com/ml23032.pdf - and READ THEIR analysis....They make both and strongly recommend the 4 point Bi axis.

RE: Do you think the RV market will ever get back on track?

Do you think there's any hope in the near future for the resale of RVs to be more than taking a big hit on resale? I believe that your motorhome will not be worth tomorrow what it is worth today....There may be some anomaly that could cause a small spike but basically - the value of these things fall every day. The glory days of the RV industry are over. Price of fuel, tight consumer credit, falling housing prices, high unemployment, and a fragile stock market propped up by government money will keep RV sales down. We don't intend to sell ours but if I did really need to sell one, I would sell it now. It costs money every day to own one of these things - even if it just sits in the drive. Hopefully you will find a way to keep and enjoy it. If you are going to travel and see the USA, this is the only way to go.

RE: We are Off to Watch the shuttle

Anybody have any pics to post would love to see them We were fortunate enough to be there for the launch and I have pics but I don't know how to post them here without some type of public viewing photo host.....I will email a couple to you if you send me an email address through a PM...It was one of the most unbelievable sights/events I ever experienced. We were there for two days waiting...We saw the launch from about as close as you can get...on a pier directly across the river with an unobstructed view. Unbelievable. Unless something changes, it was the last night launch...We have seen day launch and night launch and there is no comparison...none at all...If you want pics, let me know. Phil
