RE: Where are we?

Been here :@
OK - I've not personally been there... But it looks a lot like the field in "North by Northwest" when Cary Grant was running away from the spraying airplane!
Nope, that's not it. However, there is a large rock within a few feet. Jack

RE: Where are we?

This should be a good head scratcher. Just identifying what it is will be tough. The where is a little off the beaten path.

Here's my SWAG (Scientific wild a$$ guess)as to what it is.:h
Looks to me, like this may be a boat dry-dock. Rides on the rails down a steep slope into the water, a boat is floated over it, the four large straps lift and cradle the boat, and then the whole kit and caboodle is wenched out of the water. :B Jack

RE: Where are we?

Would the bridge be the I35 bridge that collapsed at St Paul/Minneapolis a few years back?
Sorry, but no. However, PotKorn correctly identified the Port Isabel to South Padre Island bridge. Notice the center of the bridge is different from the rest after that section was replaced.
From amarillionet.com
"Four killed in collapse of Padre Island bridge PORT ISABEL - A group of barges smashed into a pillar of the only bridge leading to popular South Padre Island early Saturday, toppling three 80-foot sections of the bridge and killing at least four people whose vehicles plunged into the water 85 feet below."

RE: Wheel chocking advise

Our previous home had a steep driveway that I would frequently park the 5th wheel on for a few days. It looked pretty dangerous sitting there with only the yellow plastic chocks holding it back, and I thought it also made an excellent target for a prankster to have some fun with.
I had Ace Hardware cut me a couple heavy duty chains about six feet long that I used to chain and lock the front and back wheels together.
Looked like a good secure method to me. Jack

RE: Where are we?

I believe that's the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge that was hit by a ship and partially destroyed, with multiple vehicles falling into Tampa Bay.
Sorry, but no. Has a similar history though. Jack

Here's a picture of a bridge that made national news a few years back. There is a clue in the picture. Jack

RE: Tire Noise Revisited, More Info

I would replace the front right tire with the spare and see if the problem goes away. A defective belt in the tire will cause wheel thumping.
Rotating the tire to a different position may make the thumping less noticeable, but may mask a serious tire problem. Jack

RE: winegard rw-2000 question

When pointing the antenna are you trying to point the end towards the station or face the direction with the width of the antenna . Also is there a front and back?
Excellent question...It seems logical that the full width of the antenna should face the transmitter antenna. However, about half the time I can receive a stronger signal by pointing the end of the antenna directly towards the transmitter.
I searched my antenna owners manual for an answer without success.
I thought I had a good basic understanding of antennas, but the Batwing has been a humbling experience for me.
My antenna will rotate about 330 degrees. Jack

RE: Who needs pickups anyway???

You should have told him it is a thing in America where real men drive pickups not toy cars. After all Americans whipped their back sides in two wars and bailed them out in two other wars. And he's asking questions about our man things.
What Old Guy says...Also, gun-racks look stupid hanging in the back window of these midget cars we drive nowadays. :W Jack

RE: Departing early for the day @ RV parks

Idleing a modern diesel for 10 minutes is silly. The engine at idle will take a long time to warm up. Start it, wait 30 seconds for oil to circulate, put it in gear and drive out of the park slowly.
Cigar Mike
Its silly indeed, I'm only referring to doing this during the winter months when it is colder. During the summer months, I just get the heck out of there so the rest can still sleep before all the real noises start.
However my diesel supplement manual says that I should let it idle during cold temps whenever possible to allow the backflow to do its work before driving off and if that is not possible then to "take it easy" until it has warmed up enough then i can go about business as usual.
I would prefer to follow the manual to increase the likeliness my engine will sustain longevity as I am trying to do the best I can to take care of an expensive truck.
I had a Ford Power Stroke and now a Duramax, and have never came across the term "Backflow" in the owners manual, or anywhere else for that matter. Am I the only one here who doesn't understand what he's talking about?
In my opinion, anyone that would idle his diesel truck for 10 minutes in the early morning hours in an RV park where others are nearby is just plain rude and inconsiderate of others. Jack

RE: lamp out light

Had a similar problem on our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Finally found the problem to be in the middle brake light. One of the three bulbs in the oblong brake light was burned out. Jack

RE: wonder what happend here

It must be a meteor that fell on it.
If that's the case, does he get to keep the meteor, or does the State get it since it most likely struck the truck on a public road? :h

RE: Batteries, yet again

Here we go again. You may recall my last missive Here.
As noted, bought 2 brand spanking new Grp 29's and life was good.
Also, in addition to what the other posters suggest, my next step would be to eliminate the parallel connection between the two batteries, and operate on one battery at a time. The fact that your system worked well for two weeks after you installed the new batteries, would lead me to believe that one of them is defective pulling both down. Jack

RE: Does 55 MPH really mean 55 MPH?

I consider myself to be a good citizen with the rare ability to follow posted speed limits. Except in an emergency, I cannot see why anyone would purposely break the law. Jack
