RE: confused...Maxxis is best? but made in china?

The country of origin should be molded right in to the sidewall of the tire, probably only on one side. By law the code showing the plant where the tire was manufactered has to be molded into the sidewall. Here is a world wide list of tire plant codes. Tire plant codes John U

RE: Anyone running Denman tires?

I replaced my Duros with Denman Express last year. The Express were made in Mexico. From what I understand the new Denman Cargo Carriers are made in China, which personally I think I would shy away from. I also read somewhere on this forum that Denman may be in fiscal trouble, but that is not confirmed. I like my Denmans, but not sure I would bite off any Chinese tires at this time--you may want to confirm where they are made and how old they are. An alternative that has had good write ups and about the same price are Maxxis. Same here, happy with the made in Mexico Denman's I put on last year. Today I would go with the Maxxis ST205/75R15 LRD (At bottom of list) In stock John U

RE: Bigger water tank?

Just for consideration: What goes in also comes out. Do you have enough holding tank capacity to handle a larger FW tank? Skip, Maybe his Jayco is like our Rockwood's, 90 gallons of holding tanks and 30 gallons of FW?? Does that make sense to you? John U

RE: i77 Through West Virginia

Steve, We enjoy the drive down I-77 very much. Beautiful scenery, good road. In WV, the road is curvy, but no exceptional long grades. The longest hill is at the VA-NC line. it is a 7% grade for 7 miles. You just need to take it slow and easy going down and use 2nd gear and take your time going up. Enjoy your trip, we are headed that way in about 6 weeks. John U

RE: Bearings on Rockwood Ultra Light

http://pic100.picturetrail.com:80/VOL578/3246133/19271602/313549455.jpg I am sure this bearing would have failed pre-maturely had I not found it when I did. This bearing HAS already failed. No, this bearing did not fail, it had a gross manufacturing defect. The bearing was never overheated. I cleaned, inspected, and repacked the bearings on an almost new trailer, that's how I found the defect. The purpose of the post was to alert all owners that they need to have bearings maintained by a know competent mechanic that they can trust. John U

RE: 2005 Rockwood 8315SS Black/gray tank dumping issues

I added a quickie flush to our 2007 Rockwood 8315SS. Quickie flush I also relocated the dump valves so that I no longer have to get down on my knees to operate the valves. Those who own the 8315SS will appreciate this mod. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3306/3442368944_cec8bdb463.jpg The 8315SS has a long pipe from the black tank to the dump valve which makes it difficult to get the solids out of the tank. I understand your concerns, but don't be too concerned about getting clear water to flow out of the tank. John U

RE: Bearings on Rockwood Ultra Light

This is a picture of one of the wheel bearings I removed from my 2007 Rockwood when it was about 3 months old. I found this by cleaning and inspecting the bearings before I had any problems. http://pic100.picturetrail.com:80/VOL578/3246133/19271602/313549455.jpg You may have had some of this same batch of bearings. Only one of the 8 bearings on my trailer had this defect. I am sure this bearing would have failed pre-maturely had I not found it when I did. As for replacements; TIMKEN John U

RE: Cheap Aux Water Tank Idea

This little pump from Harbor Freight works great. I place the pump close to the trailer battery and connect 1 hose to my aux tank and run a second hose to the TT fill. Harbor Freight 12V transfer pump John U

RE: Erie, Pa RV show (two thumbs up)

Erie, Pa RV show (two thumbs up)

The post on the Chicago RV show prompts me to post my thoughts on the RV show at Erie, Pa this past weekend. A small show by big city standards, there were 6-7 RV dealers with everything from Class A's to pop-up's on display. The display hall is 29,000 square feet and was filled to capacity with RV's. There were many campgrounds represented also. The parking was free, and close, and the admission was $3.00 per person. We have bypassed the Cleveland RV show the past two years and went to the Erie show instead. I am sure next year we will do the same. John U

RE: UPDATE: Ordered the wrong water regulator

I have the Watts 560A regulator and it works just fine. I had low flow problems in my Rockwood until I bypassed the built in water filter. Just take the cartridge out of the filter and see what happens. There are various filter cartridges available with different micron ratings. The smaller the micron rating the less flow it will have. Personally, I sold the whole filter assembly at a garage sale, good riddance! Another poster will be along soon to tell you how great the whole house water filters are. Not for me, to each his own. RE: reall, really, downsizing.

We went to the RV show in Erie, Pa yesterday. We saw a White Water model 818 that really got us thinking about downsizing. This unit has reasonable sized holding tanks, a huge 4000 lb CCC (translate into fewer problems with tires, wheel bearings, etc since there is no way you could load that much stuff into it). A double door 6 cu ft refer, all in a 20 ft overall length. Here is a link. White Water Specifications John U

RE: 205/75R15 vs 225/75R15 trailer tires

Another thing, what is your rim WIDTH? Many TT's with 205/75R15's use a 5" rim width. Putting 225's on those rims is not really a great idea. ST205/75R15 – Rim Width required – 5” to 6.5” ST225/75R15 – Rim Width required – 6” to 7” Personally I think putting 225/75R15's on 5 inch rims is a really bad idea. I can envision the tires literally rolling off the rims in an emergency manuver. John U

RE: Outside compartment door leaks

The first thing I would do is inspect the door seals. If these seals are defective you can buy similar material in the weatherstripping area at Lowes. If they are not obviously defective, I would then remove the door frame. You will probably find that the butyl tape was either not installed at all or folded under causing the leak. Remove the old butyl tape and replace with new, then seal the outer edges with Proflex RV from Geocell. Good luck. BTW I am a strong proponent of the fix it yourself, fix it right school of thought. RE: share your "vintage" RV pictures MAX SIZE 640 x 480

I finally found some pictures of a trailer my Father built in the 1950's. It was originally built as a clamshell design with a hinge at the front. I believe he ordered the plans from a company called Comstock who advertised in Popular Science magazine. After a few years, he rebuilt it as a telescoping design, as you see in the pictures. This was built a few years before Hi-Lo trailers came on the market. The lower rear section opened up so he could haul a boat inside. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4279294171_8c0ef453f1_o.jpg Here is a shot with it collapsed for travel. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/4279294007_b37ce11619_o.jpg Here it is arriving back home in Ohio after a trip to Michigan (That's the only place he ever took it!) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2700/4279294241_3b17aa5363_o.jpg John U
