RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

I prefer vanilla flavoured coffee, but Hazelnut will do. :W I jest...beggars can't be choosers. Just make sure there's some half and half or whole milk available. That powdered stuff and 2% whitened water should be made illegal or taxed like cigarettes. I'm really looking forward to some of that authentic Yankee bar-b-que. - LJZ

RE: Best Entrance for the Blue Ridge Parkway in a Class B

Joe: Something to consider: Pretty Place - about midway between Asheville NC and Greenville SC. I meant to take a drive there when I was living in Asheville, but never made it. To be perfectly honest, the view off the back deck of the house I lived in when I was in Asheville had one of the best views I'd seen in any of my travels through the Skyline Drive and BRP. Take a drive up Brown Road in Asheville and you'll see what I mean. - LJZ

RE: Best Entrance for the Blue Ridge Parkway in a Class B

Joe: A word of caution...if you decide to get onto the Skyline Drive in Front Royal, and then get bored with the scenery after about 3 hours (as I did) and get tired of driving the low speed limit (as I did), be very careful about where you exit the Skyline Drive. Some of the exits have very steep grades with extreme curves. I learned this the hard way, complete with the smell of burning brakes. Speaking for myself, 2 hours of "scenic" mountain driving is about all that I can take (it all looks the same to a city girl after that), and I would limit my 2 hours to whatever the "experts" consider to be the most scenic part of the Parkway...with safe, drivable entry and exit considered. - LJZ

RE: Roadtrek

Also had a Pleasureway Excel, would stay away from them. Ours had leaks in roof and storage compartments and handled horribly. Built on a Ford chassis. Not well laid out on the inside either, a lot of isle-way and cramped bathroom. I've heard horror stories of leaky Roadtreks more often than I've heard of leaky Pleasure-Ways...let's be fair. As far as layout goes, it's my opinion that the Pleasure-Way Excel has the best layout, because I like the openness that it offers and am not a pack rat who needs a ton of closet space that I can cram with a ton of junk to bring along with me when I travel. Maybe the bathroom in the Excel is cramped (in my opinion, it's not), but the entire living area of the Roadtrek is cramped...and I don't live in the bathroom. To each his own. I have never had any handling issues with my Ford, but it seems to be a problem with some. - LJZ (...I'm back :W) 2002/2003 Pleasure-Way Excel-TS

RE: Storm Damage to a B

Joe: Please let us know the results of your friend's claim. I once knew a guy who had a tree fall on his reasonably new car during a storm and total it. The insurance company said it was "an act of God" and didn't pay one, thin dime. Funny...some of us believe that everything is an act of God. Why do they stop at falling trees? - LJZ

RE: Storm Damage to a B

That is just awful. Poor fellow. I feel bad for whining about my unhinged utility door. Lucky for me, the 2 trees that fell near my van went in the opposite direction. I agree about that van being totaled. Very unfortunate. - LJZ

RE: Pleasure-Way Utility Door Broken

Gene: It's the door that's below the bathroom window (just before the rear tire). I discussed this with my brother on the phone yesterday, and that's what he suggested also - drilling out the rivets (as suggested by LadyRVer), and then reattaching with nuts, bolts and maybe some epoxy (as Rodger suggested). I'm surprised that the holes are intact. I would've expected some shearing and cracking. Hopefully I'll get to this in a couple of weeks when it warms up a bit. Thanks all! - LJZ

RE: Pleasure-Way Utility Door Broken

I just want to see what happens when I type the word "valves" many times in a row: valves valves valves valves Hmmm...what other words trigger this nifty little advert gimmick? I'm going to contact Phil at Pleasure-Way. It looks like there might be some type of fiberglas glue that will re-attach the door to the piano hinge. I sure hope so. I'd really love to be able to fix this myself. Anyone know of an adhesive that will bond fiberglas to...uh...whatever metal that piano hinge is made of? - LJZ

Pleasure-Way Utility Door Broken

I went out a bit earlier to start cleaning up some of the debris (tree branches and twigs) that was on my lawn after the blizzard, and noticed that the utility door on my Excel (the one that's held on by a piano hinge and covers the electrical connection, dump valves, etc.) was ripped away by the wind. It's attached with rivets, and is currently barely hanging on by one rivet. Has anyone ever had this happen to their rig and, if so, were you able to get it fixed? I really hate to go the duct tape route. I always knew that this would happen on some blistery winter day and have worried about it every winter since I've owned my rig (yes...a self-fulfilled prophecy...and so much for "Nick's Theory of Worrying"). It's poorly designed, since the door has to remain open while the unit is plugged in. I think the older models had an opening in the door through which the electrical cable would pass. The good news is that my engine started. - LJZ

RE: winter storm

Take if from a pro, worrying does help. Nothing that I ever worried about ever happened, my worrying stopped it all so I'll just keep it up. Thanks for a good laugh...now back to worrying. - LJZ

RE: winter storm

Hey Lynne, those ice pellets would blend marvelously with an adult drink of choice...:B Yes...I could get drunk and watch more trees fall down...and watch the gutters fall from my house. The weight of this "stuff" is REALLY worrying me as it is The "ice pellets" could be disastrous. Neighboring towns have been without power since Saturday due to fallen power lines. I guess worrying isn't going to change anything... - LJZ

RE: winter storm

The Colts were out-coached and out-played last night. Peyton decided to throw the game so that his home town could win...what a guy! I love him for that! Our weather forecast includes the following words for the wee hours of tomorrow morning: "ICE PELLETS" - now doesn't that sound interesting? - LJZ

RE: winter storm

Hey LJZ, don't they have snowblowers in the Garden State? Hasn't snowed like this here (the neighbors told me) since 1988...don't need a snowblower to use that rarely...plus I get the benefit of some pretty serious aerobic exercise (I am really quite sore today). - LJZ (congratulations to the Saints and all of their fans!)

RE: winter storm

Barbara: We had about 20 inches, which took me 4-1/2 hours to shovel out of my 40-yard long driveway (a neighbor helped me for a while, or else it would've taken 6 hours). This after 10 inches last Saturday (a much lighter weight snow)...and they're predicting another 6 to 12 inches on Wednesday. I've lost an assortment of about 10 cedar and holly trees, which snapped due to the weight of the snow...very unfortunate, but no damage to the house or the Pleasure-Way, which is parked in the driveway. So it goes... - LJZ (hoping that the Saints can pull it off...sorry, Judy)

RE: Winter Camping in a B (not by choice)

You're fortunate to have had your B. I feel real sorry for anyone who had to overnight it in a regular car. Seems like you've got a lifetime story to tell with that experience. - LJZ The girl's gotta have it!

2002 Pleasure Way Lexor TD with 9735 honest miles. Wow! Someone who's actually driven their Pleasure-Way less than I have. Congratulations on your purchase. - LJZ

RE: Winterize Everything!!

Don't forget to check the basement bins for "freezables" & put antifreeze in your windshield wiper fluid. I thought that windshield wiper fluid already contained some sort of antifreeze. Am I wrong? I can remember many times that I've squirted the antifreeze onto the windshield as a way to help melt ice accumulation. As for me...anything that can freeze is taken out of the Pleasure-Way for the winter...especially me. - LJZ
