RE: Pictures of slightly damaged Tow Vehicle....Need advice

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago but I was hit by a big truck. My damaged is certainly worse, frame is tweaked, box no longer square, box hit the cab, cab door doesn't close proper, bumper folded into the spare tire, exhaust crushed, etc, etc, BUT THE HITCH LOOKS FINE. I'm afraid they won't replace it, I no longer trust the hitch. If they don't change it I guess I'll buy my own.

RE: Gas tow vehicles

Fords V10 is an absolutely great engine. If we still had cheap gas there'd be a pile more out there. Unfortunately it's completely under marketed and under utilized. The diesels get all the press.

RE: Am I the only happy F-150 tower

Quite happy with mine overall. Handles very well with the trailer. I found hills could be a struggle but have since solved that with some forced induction. I'll keep this truck probably another 8 years.

RE: 2007 2wd f150 towing

It'll tow just fine aside from long steep hills.

RE: okay to walk inside on slide out when closed?

What does the owners manual say? My living room slide out has two large warning labels on the top frame warning of potential damage by walking on it while retracted. It's the kind that pulls up and in. My bedroom slide pulls only straight in and can be used and walked on while retracted.

RE: Travel Trailer w/King Bed

LOVE having a king bed. It quickly turned into a must have requirement when shopping for our latest trailer.

RE: Is entry level bad? Any one have a keystone summerland?

Lots of 30+ year old trailers around without aluminum stud construction. It's personal opinion frankly, I find entry level trailers have a great square footage to cost ratio and a lot of the differences between the entry level and levels higher were only in the use of higher end fixtures and fancier interior materials. Even the chassis and running gear were identical in a lot of examples. When I camp I'm not the slightest bit interested if my cupboards are maple or particle board. It's all in how well you treat and maintain it. If everything meets your requirements and you think the dealer is competent, go for it.

RE: How do I permanently stabilize my travel trailer?

The moment I remove the wheels from my TT while it's on my lot, my TT's insurance becomes VOID. Will yours? Check the policy. So long as the wheels are touching the ground it still classified as a recreational vehicle, that includes completely placing the trailer on blocks to remove all weight from the suspension, so long as the tires touch. Otherwise it becomes a fixed dwelling and must be insured as such. Personally if you live anywhere there are freeze/thaw cycles I wouldn't hard block the trailer. Been there, done that. Add two stabilizers ahead of the wheels and some kind of anti-rock system between the tires and make level adjustments from time to time.

RE: Another weight Question for a 1/2 ton

Personally I think 1500+lbs is decent headroom so far as towing safely goes. I can't predict the quality of the tow, but it's a lot cheaper to make improvements in suspension and power for your current vehicle rather than buying a new tow vehicle.

RE: towing with a f150

I've already made a cold air intake and upgraded the rear suspension. If I keep going then we're talking LT tires, Edge computer module and less restrictive muffler. Cost wise, the mods are much cheaper than another truck. My F150 is paid for and that's what I have to work with. Fred Schwartzworld , running as CAI without tuning will result in more noise and less power, along with putting the engine in a lean condition that can be potentially harmful. There is significant documentation, including dyno with A/F ratios showing this condition. The problem is amplified with an Edge module. If you were to return the air intake to it's factory condition I strongly recommend getting an Edge programmer, the difference it makes in towing is like getting a different truck. So is drivability and mileage. Even better would be a Gryphon programmer if you want to add additional mods or keep existing ones. www.powerhungryperformance.com

RE: towing with a f150

I'm now pulling about 9000lbs with my '06 F-150 SuperCrew 5.4L 3.73. It towed exceptionally well aside from hills where you'd really have to work the engine. I resolved the hill power issue with a supercharger. Now I'm just under 440hp and just a bit over 500lb.ft of torque. Cost me $2000 for the blower kit, installed myself, and $400 for a custom tune on my programmer. I now have that "effortless" towing that everyone wants for much cheaper than a new truck.

Your lug nuts are on backwards. Remedy that immediately.

RE: Brake Controller

From personal experience I'm extremely happy with the P3 controller. It works flawless, has some nice features, and looks the best in my opinion, especially in a modern vehicle. The only thing I regret is not getting the direct plug in harness. I plan on getting the harness before I start pulling next season. V8 Colorado? Wow, that's a nice combo. Happy trails.

RE: Tow Vehicle Question

While a cold air intake and free flow exhaust will help peak horsepower numbers at higher RPMs you'll find your low end RPM levels for horsepower, and more importantly, torque will be diminished in almost all cases. Peak torque and horsepower will be shifted up the RPM range can leave you with typically with less pulling power in the RPM ranges you need for towing. I can promise you the money is much better spent keeping the truck as is and only adding gears, or a positive displacement supercharger, or even both.

RE: 2009 F150 and 8000lbs

I tow a 31ft TT with my 2006 F150 5.4L, it's 6750 dry and I'm sure over 8000 loaded. My truck has 3.73's and factory tow package. I'm under all the tow specs except the tongue weight which is about maximum. I also have an Edge programmer which is worth its weight in gold and highly recommended for towing or driving in general. It pulls just fine, the only times I need more oomphff is driving into headwinds on very long steep hills. You 2009 will be much better, not only do you have 50+ more horse and more torque but I believe you have a 6spd trans now, and that'll make all the difference. 1/2ton trucks aren't 1/2 ton trucks anymore. Happy towing!
