RE: Texas to Salida Skipping Raton pass

You mean north on Highway 287 and then west on Highway 50?
That sounds good-- it would be 889 miles
One other route would be Interstate 40 west, then 285 north to Poncha Springs and a little bit East to Salida (957 miles). Might be a more scenic drive.

RE: Need Destination Suggestion

I went to ReserveAmerica and plugged in that you wanted a campground near Dallas for a three night stay beginning on March 13. Ray Roberts campgrounds are available and also Tawakoni State Park and also Lake Whitney as well as other campgrounds

Have fun!

RE: Cool Summer camping ideas

We like the Gunnison area and also Buena Vista and the Leadville area.
There are some full hook up campgrounds in Buena Vista and Salida.

RE: Texas Blue Bonnets

I am not sure when they will show their blue faces (we always see who can spot the first one) but I heard on the local Austin news tonight that we should have a great showing this year.
We have had a cold winter and it is still cool down here.

RE: How do you load water onboard once you are parked?

We have a small RV(camper van) and do a lot of dry camping. We use the collapsible water jug or regular one gallon jugs and pour in using a funnel originally designed to use with motor oil--it is a flexible funnel. That 5 gallon jug is VERY heavy to hold up and pour! We try to camp near a water spigot. We enjoy the National Forest Service campgrounds and often have to pump our water.

RE: What Gives on Recreation.gov?

Yes, it is 10:00 a.m. eastern--6 months in advance, I think (or maybe 180 days?) but I think 6 months is the time.

RE: Trying a B

In addition to the sleeping, cooking and bathroom requirements you have to use your second home at least 14 nights our of the year. I wonder how they check on that!!!
I performed a couple of Internet searches and could not find any Class B rentals for Colorado:(

RE: Where to Put Your Laptops when Moving?

Okay, I was a little bored and wanted to read the reviews for the steering wheel laptop desk. If you haven't read them, please do it. Great, great entertainment.
Thanks for making my day, McZippie!

RE: S.E.Michigan to San Antonio,TX.

Have made the trip from Sutin to Western Michigan and to Novi area many times. When is your trip? If now I would not take the I-44 route because of the hills in Missouri. Snow and ice could hamper your speed and route.
In the summer both routes are about the same, but the I-30/40 seems a bit faster.

RE: Taylor Park Gunnison NF CO

Yes, we have camped there. It is a lovely area and the road that runs along the river is paved from Almont to the Taylor Reservoir.
Here is a link to the Gunnison National Forest Campgrounds . Of course, the campgrounds are closed now. Some sites even have electricity.
There is also the option of just camping in dispersed areas.
You can make reservations at some. We are camping at Rosy Lane in August and will make day trips to some of our favorite remote fishing lakes.
Forum search for Taylor Park during the last year

RE: Inverter to Run Coffee Maker

If you have room in your RV you might try this Coleman Stove-Top Coffee Maker
We have one but it takes up a lot of room in our small van. We use an old Drip Coffee Maker that belonged to my inlaws. Ours is stainless steel. Works just fine for those quiet mornings when you don't have electricity

RE: Site suggestions for Pedernales Falls State Park

This sites at Pedernales State Park, along with most in the Texas State Park system, are non-specific--first come, first served.
We like the Texas State Parks but prefer to camp at the COE parks that allow you to select your site in advance.

RE: Reserve America - Nickerson State Park

I ha this same question last week and I phoned Reserve America. Was told that reservations can be made beginning at 10:00 am Eastern Standard Time.
When making a reservation online earlier in the morning than that time, the site will direct you to try again at 10:00 am Eastern
