RE: Front room heat

I realize this will only help when you have power, but I would suggest a ceramic heater with a digital thermostat for the bunkhouse. This is a bandaid to an improperly balanced system but they do work great. Daryll

RE: Wireless thermometer

Ours came with two remotes, and as they are outdoor sensons from Oregon Scientific....we tie wrapped one to the frame by the stairs for outside temp and the other is bolted inside the storage compartment to give "Holding" tank temp's. The same sensors have been going strong for 5 years now with the one fully exposed to the elements. Daryll

RE: Propane Tank Cover options

2 ideas First, cut yourself an access hatch to enable switching tanks second, buy a vinyl twin cover that can unzip to change tanks or remove to refill. A thought, if you always keep a full tank, then there should be almost no chance of needing to refill a tank during a trip which would mean only removing a tank at home. If you have an auto switchover on your LP tanks are you using it? If so, then you should only need to check when a tank has run out and gone to the spare tank. Daryll

RE: PORTABLE WATER TRANSFER PUMP

12v pump with 7pin trailer plug, 26 gallon tank under my roll-n-lock + rv hose voila http://s717.photobucket.com/albums/ww178/FDav8r/Colorado%20mods/?action=view¤t=12Vtransferpump.jpg http://s717.photobucket.com/albums/ww178/FDav8r/Colorado%20mods/?action=view¤t=26galtank.jpg

RE: 30 Amp Extension Cord

The worst feeling ever is coming up 2-3 feet short on your 30A cord, and having to use a 15A block heater cord to finish the job. So much for getting what you paid for. Daryll

RE: 5er Basement Organization, Especially With Pics?

for tiki torches, try fishing rod holders spaced as required. Daryll

RE: 12-volt DC DVR?

A microwave running off an inverter may kill a battery fast, but I doubt your DVR would. Check the power consumption on the back of it, and then run it off your inverter as required. If you use it sparingly, I doubt you will have trouble. A 400 watt inverter should power a small-mid size tv and vcr/dvd/dvr if you have the ability to run wires to it directly from your battery. If you are using the cigarette lighter socket behind the tv, you will likely not get enough power. Daryll

RE: Caloway park and RV in Calgary

It really is a campsite in an open, well groomed grassy field. There are few trees and little to no protection from any winds. that said, it's right next to the park and a quick hike back to your rig for a break or meal. Great for going to Calloway, not much to see if you want to "camp". Daryll

RE: So much for camping......

We often wake up the first or second day on the May long weekend to be greeted by a scene similar to your picture, and that is on a camping trip. Rule #1 all awnings go in at night. Rule #2 failure to follow rule #1 will result in a rude awakening, and a costly awning repair. Seriously I think the rv world is collectively holding it's breath for spring. I know I am. Daryll

RE: DVD in, Check. Audio, Check. Picture on TV, uhhh no pic...

Good for you for fixing the problem yourself. Many would say you have a warranty....let the dealer fix it. I say get on this forum, ask pertinent questions, find photos, seek advise and learn to fix the little stuff yourself. You are now one step further ahead and saved 80 mins of drive time/gas/etc etc. What's your next project...lol Daryll

RE: For non-retirees; how do you justify it?

As long as your camping isn't ruining any other facet of your life, I can't imagine why you would want to justify it to anybody for any reason. Do what you love and take as many people with you while you do it. Daryll

RE: Do I really need an oven?

As frequent boondockers, we love ours. Our first night is usually "oven" night, as cooking a lasagna for an hour helps heat up the trailer for the cool night ahead. We enjoy making nicer dishes camping than we do at home, so our oven gets a lot of use. Daryll

RE: Fresh Water Tank Drain Valve

I also extended mine on our Jayco with 1/2in hose and clamp and installed a fitting with a shutoff and threads so I could attach our fresh hose and transfer water or just let it drain on our lawn as required.

RE: How do you load water onboard once you are parked?

26 gallon tank in the bed of my truck, coupled to a 12water pump with on/off switch that has a 7pin connector to get power from. Standard rv garden hose with tube to insert into trailer. Daryll

RE: Battery Tender Plus Question

I would save the cost of a second unit, and just alternate charging one at a time. I have twin 6v batts (in series), and a spare 12v that I will charge for a week on/week off and alternate as required. The charger does not need to be on them 24/7 365. Daryll

RE: Outdoor Kitchens?

We often camp without power, so the fridge/microwave and tv that come on these units can only be powered with a generator. For that reason, I prefer my kitchen inside, and my bbq outside. They do look pretty neat, and may attract a lot of folks to the lifestyle. Daryll

RE: Battery Drain from Gas Dectector

Better to put a battery cut-off switch to the whole trailer rather than just the detector to eliminate ALL phantom loads during storage. They are sold at rv or marine stores and should be fairly easy to install. Our two Jayco's had a 30A inline fuse next to the battery that I would pull out as a battery cut off. Daryll

RE: premiumound system for jayco

One of the biggest reasons for us to run our inverter is to power our dvd/stereo dry camping. For just playing music, I am tempted to install another car stereo indoors (similar to our outside unit) that runs off a 12v feed. All I need now is a 12 television and I am set. Daryll

RE: Trex or Composite wood used for leveling

I am using composite deck "cut-offs" for my four corners on my 5er and I really like them. I custom cut them to be just large enough, and although heavier they are tough as nails. For levelling side to side, I custom cut 5/4 decking with bevelled ends that stack and interlock with 3/4" dowels to keep them from sliding apart. A good setup for the last five years. Daryll

RE: When does the waiting get easier?

When we bought our TT and our 5er, both were purchased in Sept, and stored on the dealers lot until April. I feel your pain, and I got through it by spending a lot of time at my dealer walking through identical rigs planning mods etc. It's rv show time, so another opportunity to look for "stuff" for your rig. Eventually the day to bring it home does happen and your good to go. enjoy....Daryll
