RE: Organizing those bedroom wardrobes

have 3 hanging closets. converted one to a shoe closet with wire shelves that lock onto each other (stackable) walmart. the other two we hang clothing and added shoe holders that hangs on the back of the door... has 2 pockets side by side and probably 5 in length (had to cut bottom couple off). Use these to hold socks belts, undies, ect...

RE: Wheel chocking advise

depending on the angle of your driveway I suppose you could use car ramps. the ones you drive up on to change your oil, mine have a foot pad made of rubber that when the wheel first touches it, it compresses and hold the car ramp in place... unlike my old metal ones that would slide every time I tried to drive up on them. I've got a neighbor up the street who chalks his on the street with pieces of firewood.... the street is a pretty good angle and I'm waiting for it to break loose and crash into a house...

RE: 2WD vs 4WD in Snow

I've got a 2009 dodge ram 1500 4wd. 20 inch tires and live NE Ohio (snow belt) in 2wd she loves to spin those back tires.
dodge raised the rpm engage on the torque converter. you will notice minimal grab to the tires until the rpms get up around 2000 - this adds performance (allows the engine to spin up before engaging the transmission) - but in snow it makes it more difficult to ease away / low rpm low torque. so much so that she will spin while trying to drive carefully on wet grass..
She's got the traction control system... which applies the brakes on the spinning side, but that only helps marginally.
my old chevy you could put in in "2" and she would start in second. (less torque) Not so on the dodge - it only limits how high of a gear you can go - you're in "2" she will only cycle between 1st and 2nd.
So either you add a lot of weight to the back of the bed, or pick up the 4wd.
If you've got the diesel... I can't help you.
and I agree with neversweat... If you live in a snowy area... once you go 4WD you will never go back and if you "must" go back to 2WD you will miss "4" and eventually pick up another...

RE: 2010 Dutchman 28G-GS

I've got the 2008 28FGS lite. Light enough for my 1/2 ton. inexpensive enough for a first RV.
Overall quality isn't the highest, but it's more than good, and well worth the cost.
I think the base construction is great 5/8ths ply with a full walk on roof (to me a good core is essential).
-don't dry the fitted comforter in a dryer (had to toss that).
I'm the kind of person who loves to modify everything I own, and the dutchman was a perfect match - good base product, lots of opportunity to make it my own. I've cut in a laundry shoot, added the vortex vent caps, pinned the bumper caps (keeps from falling off), added mattress pad (4inch memory foam), extra battery box next to the stock to store my sewer adapters, piece of PVC to hold rinsing wand (all poopy stuff stays outside)... oh I can go on and on... but thats no what you asked...

RE: Mold under vinyl

you might also consider sealing after cleaning with either zinsser or kiltz primer. Personally I'd use the oil based one.. can't remember but I think it's the zinsser. don't go with a poly or varnish will seal but not nearly as good as a sealing primer.

RE: Water System Sanitizing

search for sodium di-chlor - it's used to sanitize hot tubs / spa's - similar to bleach but: PH balanced (won't burn), no salty taste, higher free chlorine levels (more sanitization), stable when dry for 15 - 25 years (bleach only good for 1 year opened). You only use a small amt. (1/4 tsp per tank). 15 bucks for a 2 pound container.
Any doubts about it's efficacy for sanitation? If you search "sodium di-chlor emergency water" and it will tell you how to sanitize a 55 gallon drum of water for drinking directly from streams and ponds.

RE: Has anybody else had this problem?

sea foam to clean ... pick up at auto zone... can either place a small amt in each tank of gas... or "shock" the carb but getting it running warm and pour directly in the fuel line - will smoke like crazy and probably stall switch back to gas ... get it running again.. change spark plug and oil ... can also be used to rebuild / clean the carb ... I run the carb dry, pour the sea foam into the fuel line and let it soak for a few hours ... do a google search for sea foam treatment with motorcycles - especially yamaha roadstars you'll find a ton of suggestions.
prevent w/ stabil
fyi roadstars usually run rich and this causes the valves to stick w/ carbon build up sea foam will break down the carbon

RE: runny eye

herpes infections in the eye of a human can be very bad... cats handle the virus pretty good... as long as there are no lesions (think cold sore on eye) or superimposed infection (pus type drainage). It can resolve on its own... but keep in mind I'm no vet... I've got a cat who's clear eye drainage was diagnosed as herpes by a vet and I'm an Emergency Nurse w/ 12 yrs experience... so my area of expertise is humans. ~D

RE: How long can you use water from fresh water tank?

research sodium di-chlor ... used to sanitized hot tubs (can also be used in survival situations to sanitize an 80 gal drum of water)... PH balanced, stable in dry form for years (liquid bleach needs replaced I think after a year)... doesn't smell doesn't taste salty.. only need a small amt in fresh water tank teaspoon for shock levels and has more "free chlorine" than bleach.. cheap... pool place sells 2 pounds for under 20 bucks .. and I may use 3 Table spoons a year... use to sanitize inside of hoses at beginning of year... treat on first trip - treat on last trip.. overkill I know but many water born diseases suck!

RE: Amish/Ohio

another vote for evergreen... been there .. very nice... not very big... no fishing pond. Nice pool - Amish visit laundry mat to wash clothes so laundry mat is huge and clean. Heated floors in Bathrooms in pool area... sites are a little small back ins and pull thru great hook ups custom made picnic tables paved sites some on a slight hill... close to everywhere in amish co... .gives hey rides in fall for kids, will also do buggy rides in summer... hard not to interact with Amish... great time... the Ohio RV.net members have done rallys there...

RE: runny eye

another vote for feline herpes... if you cat was a shelter cat it's very common (or been around a shelter cat).. nothing really to do for it.. can do antivirals (probably expensive) if it's a minor problem... just deal with it...
Herpes is a virus that "hides" along the nerve root and will "pop out" when the cats immune system is distracted (has cold/ is stressed / has allergies) the immune system will deal with the outbreak (but it will just go back into hiding), takes a day or 2 to go away (or longer). Just like humans who have herpes (genital or cold sores) you can never get rid of it. only treat the symptoms.

RE: J-B weld?

used JB to hold on a motorcycle / chopper exhaust pipe that had a bolt strip out on the road while stopping for lunch put it in the hole screwed bolt in... no probs (heat dried)... I also used it to repair the inside of a motorcycle carb - as long as it's cured... it won't degrade in gasoline. ... on the flip side I've also used bondo to repair several rust holes in the oil pan of a car without dropping the pan - bondo can be mixed as a lower viscosity (more liquid) so it flows into holes better - lasted 125 miles to get it repaired. LOVE GOOP TOO... used that for EVERYTHING too...

RE: 12v trickle charger for additional battery

will the light bulb actually limit the draw or will it just act like a fuse and burn out when the draw is to heavy for the bulb? A little research and I see alternators can charge a dead battery with up to 100 amps! ugg...

ok... looking in new directions... how about a 12v solar battery charger... the lift will be in the back of the truck. can I mount the panel on the top of the battery box?

RE: 12v trickle charger for additional battery

Now, correct me if I'm wrong.. but a circuit breaker doesn't limit the amps, only trips if amps exceeds the rating. so a 5 amp breaker won't limit the draw to 5amps rather stops it if it exceeds 5amps
why? cost & effort.
hopefully this won't be to long... I don't want to run a battery cable to the back of the truck (what I think battery cables are 8gage ish). and the lift uses a garden tractor battery (guessing 200amps? not a deep cycle). The alternator on my truck (135amps ish). so at maximum draw (the battery is dead and I connect to a running truck with minimal accessories running) ... I don't know how much the alternator is going to push (amp wise) to the battery. I'm assuming it will exceed the 20 - 30 amp limit of the wires we discussed.
so in order to be safe either I have to run a battery cable (8g) to the back of the truck or limit the amount of amps allowed through the cable. I don't need a quick charge / recharge that is normal for a car battery off of the alternator... as a matter of fact it would probably be better to have a low amp charge.
If I did it battery cable way .. I'm thinking it's gonna cost me 75 - 100 bucks... but if I find a way to make it a low amp system - I've got the wires, the plugs and fuses are much cheaper... and it's easier to do. ~D

RE: 12v trickle charger for additional battery

oh! just had a thought.. must check but those "jumper cables" that connect cigarette lighter to cigarette lighter.. must have some type of limiter in them right? or they would melt the wires... right?
looked on website... no luck... not designed to be connected for more than 10 minutes.. over heats.. =/

RE: 12v trickle charger for additional battery

no seriously if I'm running up through the bed of the truck sometimes a smaller gage is easier to find already existing places to run it... but just didn't think it was necessary to run a huge wire - I'm not going to be drawing off of it, just thought a trickle is all I need... but if the battery is low I don't want it to be drawing a huge amount off the alternator .... I had even thought of running a 110v trickle charger off of a converter.. but thought "thats just silly"
Is there any way to limit the output from a 12v source? I'm a little over my head... such as a diode (wrong word I know) that would only allow the source battery to draw 1 - 3 amps off of the alternator / TV battery?
