RE: What's the best quality 5th wheel?

Mary,
We have owned our firth wheel now for about six years. We still love it. Yes we've looked at newer ones but still think this one is perfect. My advice to you is to take your time. Look at dozens of 5ers, Look at hundreds, it will adventually make your head spin but you will also realize that you seem to gravatate to certain types with certain features. Take a small notebook with you each time. Write down which accessories you really like and which ones you know you don't have to have. Price will kind of follow your likes and dislikes. For instances, if I were to get a new 5er now? I'd love self-leveling but would I pay extra for it? No. You will do the same thing. Plus as you get to know the brands you start to pick up on which are made better. Ask a lot of question, look underneath, now there's a story all by it's self. You will soon be the expert and will know the layout you want and where to find it with your price . Do not be in a hurry, You'll be glad you did, Happy Camping.

RE: Durango D285RL question

Sorry can't help you there. I'm sure you have tried the obvious ways. You just might not have that storage.. What about a call to the dealer that you purcased it from? Did they do a run through with you when you took possesion? I'm sure a quick call to them will give you an answer. Happy camping and enjoy.

RE: What tire would you use?

I did as some have suggested , I sized up and went with 16 inch. Please be cafeful doing this, my decision was almost a problem because after they were installed I noticed that my axles are mounted too close to each other to comfortably have the larger size on. They end up only having a half and inch between the two tires. Too close for me. Michelin is still the best and you get what you pay for .

RE: 12 Volt Electrical Problem

Air Boss,
Since you say this happens while your connected to shore power it could be your converter. Try disconnecting the battery's and insulate the wire ends from touching ground or each other and see if the trouble continues. My inverter acted that way too and I finally noticed that the lights dimmed at the same time the inverter cooling fan came on. Your on the right track and it will just take a little time to check all ( all ) the connections . Good luck and let us know .. It's always nice to hear back so we can learn too.

RE: Recommendation needed

Looked like you were getting plenty of reply's from Factory reps so far. I would take there comments with a grain of salt though and rely more on those comments from owners experiences.
I purchased a new cardinal four years ago. Love it. Pleaty of storage but its a 31LE RK w/ two slides .. For two people its fine. But we've been staying in Florida for the past 2 1/2 months, with my adult son, and have found out that two slides just aren't enough. For you ? My suggestion is simular to some of the others. The personal storage tubs is a great idea. But I would look for a unit that has four slides and has your idea of double bunk beds. Really, you won't be disappointed. Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out for you.

RE: 06duramax& jayco 05 281rls

Everyone has given good advice to you and I can only think ofa couple of things to add. Your 5er is going to have a higher profile than a TT so in certain cases it will react more to a cross wind than a TT. But all and all be careful because the 5er is so easy to pull and manuver that on the road I sometimes have to memind myself that it's there. It's that much better. Just the elimination of sway on the highway is worth switching to the 5er.. I've had mine 5 years now. SOmetimes I think back and wonder how did I ever get that 5er into some of those camp areas? With a TT it would have been impossible. ENJOY

RE: Please enlighten me on fifth wheel maneuverability

Yes a 5er is better at manuverablity. I had a 25ft TT and now have a 35ft 5er. Much better. I too back my 5er next to the garage and can put it 4 to 6 ins away from the eves, with no problem by myself. What I did to help was to take white duct tape and lay it down on the cement the whole 35ft length. This helps me with depth perception and I have it also marked where to stop. I'm lucky as to having the garage on my drivers side to see it as I back in. Now. I wouldn't think the difference is enough fot the backing in at home, where you can take your time and you don't have camping neighbors watching your every turn. But I am sure glad I made the move to a 5er when it was time to make a trade. It's your call. Enjoy your camping.

RE: hanging paintings in 5th wheel

We've done about the same as some,, the best is a fastener made for thin drywall but must be used with the velcro. We have hung clocks and pictures with out any trouble. I had more trouble with light fixures unscrewing themselves and falling. Only solution to that was loc-tite glue. Good luck and happy camping

RE: First time using our fresh water holding tank....

Drinking the water from your fresh water holding tank is really up to you. Yes if this is the first time you have used it you should do some rinsing and sanitizing.. Just like any other container you would buy new, if you put fresh water in it, it will pick up the residue from the manufacturing and who knows what else along the way until it was sealed. I have found that Spring and fall are the only times I do the complete job of rinsing and letting it clear the funny order out. If you continue to use it through the summer I don't think you'll ever have any problems. Enjoy the season.

RE: Condensation

We've experienced the same problem when the temp gets down to anything below 40 degrees. As CardinalCamper said, opening the ceiling vents a little helps, but that is where the heat goes then too. I also have a Cardinal and was as disapointed as youi sound when I ran into the same problem. A four season insulated unit, I think, should not have that bad of insulation at just 40 degeress but it does seem common. I have tried different solutions, none are perfect. I noticed that condensation was worse in locations on the lower walls and floor of the slides. So I try not to let these areas be a storage deposit and let the air be able to circulate, I also keep the ceiling fan on to move the room air. I also had a couple of containers that sold for "winter storage" that collect moisture via chemicals that periodically need dumping. At the furthest point from heat source and air movement, I safely place a portable electric heater on it's lowest setting, just to keep the air moving. All these work but what a sad senario that we have to do it in a High End four seasons unit. The option of ignoring the problem is a recipe for gareenteed trouble with mold or water damage. Buyer be ware?

RE: Beginning to Look at 5th Wheels

Sounds like, from the limited information you have us that your in good shape for this 5er. I'm not sure if your in need of the airbags or if this was a personal preference? But, CDRCOS gave you some good advice and I would follow it, if I were you. Besides half the fun of ownership is in the prep and anticipation. So enjoy. See you out there sometime.

RE: Beginning to Look at 5th Wheels

A very good choice on Trucks. You didn't say if it was disel or gas, but either way your going to be happy with it. On the 5er? Shop until you drop. Make notes on ammenities you like on each one you find and make sure you compare the list to your final choice. On the fulltiming? Just be absolutely sure it's what you want.. I have talked to a lot of campers and seems like 50% of the ones that tried fulltiming gave it up after 3 or 4 years. Don't get me wrong, it could be the greatest experience in the world for you, just be sure about it now. Good luck and be sure to keep the rest of us updated

Reset switch on F250 ?

I've owned my 2000 Ford F250 7.3 diesel, for about five years now and still haven't located the Fuel Pump reset switch. I bought her used and it didn't come with an owner’s manual. In the engine compartment it's labeled “to reset fuel pump refer to owner's manual" so that's out of the question. I attempted to find a manual on the web (for 0 costs) and was unsuccessful. So I turn to you guys and gals, the most informed bunch of people I know. Oh, you’re also free. Could use the help here, you never know when the day might come that I have to push that button to get going again. Thanks Happy Camping.

RE: How to carry extra diesel

Yep, I'm right there with everyone else looks like. I have carried a couple of 5 gal. plastic fuel cans ever since I got my diesel. At first, only when I was traveling over a couple of hundred miles but now? I just leave them there and top off the truck with them once in a while. I hear the one thing you don't want to do with the diesel is run our of fuel. Even heard it messes up the filters. Happy camping.

RE: Trailer brakes

If your new to RVing can we ask what plan you have for pulling the 5ver ? There is so much to have ready for such a rig and sounds like your doing a great job preparing. I remember my first purchase of a TT . Hooked it up and brought it the 200 miles home and just by luck happened to notice that three of the four TT wheels wireing were broken and had no way to work. So, your ahead of the game already. keep us informed if you would .

RE: Water heater problem or ???

Have to agree with "MrRepair" must be that there is one valve someplace that isn't set right. Could be at the time you winterized it was left in the wrong positon.

RE: Very Upset

I'd like to point out to JJBIRISH that I don't think anyone said that GS or GMAC is doing anything illegal or that it's not in their fine print ( I don't read it either because it's intended to be read by layers and I'm not) The point is that everyone is making is that, if we took a poll, and this is sort of a poll, you would find that a majority of all of us, think this is a bad practice and most of us have never had it happened to us. So, as long as I still can, I will choose a company that is more ethical to my view, just like you can choose to go with who ever you want to. So far, we still have that right.

RE: Very Upset

Glad I read this topic today. I learned a lot about the smiley face company. I try not to do bussiness with any Co that has gone to the troth of govmt bail out money. Just my veiw. That's my money they borrowed, funny when I think about it now, It's my money and then they would turn around and charge me again to cancel a policy? I don't think so. Agree with everyone about stopping the heavy advertisments from them too. Even that is almost deceptive. Sometimes they word things that make it sound like it's something it's not. I will say I have been happy, very happy with their road service. But, for ins.? I'll stick with Citizens. You can't beat the rates and their very good about claims. At least I can bash them on their own forum: Happy Camping

RE: Bug splaters and general cleaning

Dear Rascals,
Thanks for your tips on keeping your fifth looking good, sorry, great:W. I'm interested in more detail on the technic on putting the paste wax on and taking it off. You say you put the wax on heavy. How heavy? Is there a rule of thumb to follow? When you say heavy, with that kind of wax, you can really lay it on, so can you give us more info? Also would like to hear more on the buffing. I have never used a buffer and would like to hear more. Seems like every time, many years ago when I did try it, I either tried taking it off to early and ended up with a pad that looked like all paste or waited too long and ended up with streaks that were impossible to remove.
Love to hear more.
