RE: Re-painting 5th wheel hitch

The cool thing is you don't have to do it in black unless you want to, comes in any color to match your truck!
My favorite color is chrome!!! :)

RE: Graphics pealing

Graphics decals peel off no matter what you put them on, any dust dirt or imperfections on the surface will cause them to peel. it's completely normal our '07 had this happening on the front of the unit first and '02 is doing the same, if you want top of the line decals go to a truck lettering/sign making shop and you can get whatever you want.

RE: Hope BC campground right in town on the water front

So the homeless stay in the campground?Nobody watches for that?
I didn't say they stay in the campground, what I said there is a larger number of transients, beggars, and misfits milling about downtown Hope, we were looking to purchase a house in Hope last year and some transient decided he was going to be camping in the vendors back yard, unbeknownst to the vendor. The more ne-er do wells hanging about the bigger the chance of property disapearing, they don't have to stay in the campground to jump the fence at 3am and grab what isn't tied down. Do they??, I would guess registering at the main office isn't high on the homeless list of things to do before they scope out stuff to steal.

RE: Hope BC campground right in town on the water front

Lots of transients and homeless through that area as it is the junction for the Four major highways heading into Vancouver,The Lougheed Hwy #7, The Coquihalla #5, Hope-Princeton #3, and Trans-Canada #1 all meet in Hope. So those leaving the Vancouver area, and those coming to the Vancouver area travel through Hope, hence the moniker Gateway to Holidayland. While it's a cutsy moniker the negative connotations that accompany it cannot be denied.

You really can get anything you want in the good ol' US of A, I didn't think bias ply tires were even an option still.
Even NASCAR, the keepers of antiquated vehicular technology switched to radials, years ago.:B:S

RE: Tow Haul On or Off??

On an F-350 the Tow haul mode is a programming setting working with the transmission and the engine, you will notice in tow haul if you make an application with the service brake the transmission will downshift and help to slow you down or maintain the speed you are at, a firm sustained brake application will cause the transmission to drop a second gear, the first time or two this happens it may scare you but to pick up the gear again steady sustained throttle pressure will cause the tranny to upshift again, as well will upshift later on acceleration or hill climbing, when travelling I travel in tow haul when accelerating, de-celerating, hill climbing, downhill, and city driving. At highway speeds on mostly flat or slight grades I turn the tow haul feature off.

Here's how we like to get to the campsite, never had any problems, so far. :)
Even with the buggered power steering pump it still seems to steer really nice and easy. :h

RE: Best route Edmonton to Penticton

For the benefit of anoone else reading this thread I believe there is a ban or commercial trucking on highway 93. There are a multitude of large motorhomes and tour buses on this major tourist route so I can't see there being any weight restrictions which would impact them.
It's definatley for commercial vehicles over 5500 kgs/12000 lbs, after a quick phone call to the Icefields information center, there is NOT restrictions for recreational vehicles of any size.
Here is a link to the BC/Alta National parks system.

RE: Short box Crew Cab and slider hitch

Extended pin-box got replaced real quick! Do you need one :@
:O Be nice now, LOL, I (knock on wood) haven't had the pleasure of needing the extra, my mechanical slider works great, and my box is still in pristine shape, :) as is my rear window.
but no doubt subject to change, over time, I'm sure.

Well, I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree. :@
OK :) , Bottom line; if how you got 'er set up forces you to replace your rear window every 3rd left turn, one may want to change something to alleviate the sitiashun!!! LOL

RE: Short box Crew Cab and slider hitch

k. were both saying basically the same thing now your using mathematics, as many of us are mathematically challenged, my above test will effectivley test your clearance truck to trailer.
keep in mind I'm a truck driver, not an engineer, and I require a practical test I can see works, and while a geometric based solution is just as reliable, I need to see the solution in practice.
;) we can't ALL be geniuses :P
If you look at how the rig in your sig is parked that should be NEAR where the front corner of your trailer is closest to your rear window under 'normal' maneuvering conditions.
PS: For ME simple geometry = simple Chinese

RE: Best route Edmonton to Penticton

The best route is Edmonton to Jasper then down to Banff Eddy
There are weight restriction on Hwy. 93 Jasper to Banff.
I would travel 16 Edmonton to Valemount, 5 Valemount to Kamloops south to Merritt, 97C From Merrit to Peachland, then 97 from Peachland to Pentiction.
If you don't want to pull the hills from Kamloops to Merritt then over to Peachland, you can take Hwy 1 east out of Kamloops to Monte Creek and take Hwy 97 that way through Vernon and then south to Penticton, but going through Merritt and Peachland, will put you more on Interstate type hwys, avoiding the cities and traffic lights of Kamloops, Vernon, Lake Country, Kelowna, etc.
Down to Calgary on 2 across to Sicamous on 1 and then 97D from Sicamous down is another good option, but the Valemount route is the easiest more leisurely drive, that isn't as windy. Also there are less idiots on 5 than the twits that travel on 1 from Calgary to Kamloops.
Drive times (approx. by truckers.)
Edmonton to Kamloops 8.5 hrs,
Edmonton to Calgary 3 hrs,
Calgary to Sicamous 5.5 hrs,
Calgary to Kamloops 7.5 hrs
Kamloops to Penticton via Merritt 5,97C 3.5 hrs
Kamloops to Penticton via Vernon, 4 hrs
Sicamous to Pentiction via 97D, 4hrs

RE: Short box Crew Cab and slider hitch

At 45 Degrees the corner of the trailer should be pointing directly towards your rear window, once you go past that the corner of your trailer will get further away from your rear window, until the side of your trailer hits the cab in a past maximum turning jacknife position.
kaydeejay - Why don't you go outside and try it?

RE: Short box Crew Cab and slider hitch

If there is concern about the trailer hitting the truck when attached, you can check this by having one person walking beside the truck (on the outside of the turn) and as the driver attempts a 45 degree turn, the person standing next to the truck can watch the corner of the trailer, and you can determine if the fifth wheel is mounted too close to the truck, or if you need an extended pinbox. The person who is walking, needs to be vocal enough to warn the driver when/if the trailer is going to touch.
But at 45 degrees to the truck should be the closest that the trailer will ever get to the cab of the truck if this is not the case just keep moving forward slowly until the trailer begins to move away from the cab again.

RE: City Water Fill Issue

Were you using a water pressure regulator on the city water connection? this may be what buggered up your system. FYI for future use we always use a regulator when hooked up at a campsite, along with a surge protector for the electrical, sorry I can be no help on the issue at hand.

RE: ford explorer 2006

It might make the rig more stable but it doesn't address the underlying problem which is that the Explorer is not a tow vehicle.
Longer and heavier makes a good tow vehicle. Longbed crewcab is better than shortbed.
