RE: Bald Eagle Cam

I am really enjoying my dual monitors right now. I can keep it open in one and continue to work (or play) in the other. They are being fed right now.

RE: Dinovite

My sister uses it on her cat with allergies. Vet recommended. I have some placed "in the cart", but haven't placed the order yet. (The 3 lb powder for the cats and one tube of the liquid for the inside dog.)

RE: Bald Eagle Cam

I am HOOKED! I have been watching this off and on ALL DAY! She is a GREAT mom! Dad is fishing like crazy ... and the first grade class asking questions ... they're amazing questions. This is just awesome. THANK YOU for the link.
I am so glad you like it. Unfortunately, if you go to it for the first time at the wrong time, you might get half an hour of an eagle just sitting there and wonder what the big deal is... but watching the eaglets get stronger, watching the eagles tear apart the fish and feed it to them, seeing how careful they are positioning themselves... our office is hooked, too!

RE: DUI v Texting while driving

Difference to me is that I can text at red lights, etc. and be back to driving when the light turns green. In the same respect, I can't be back to sober when the light turns green.

RE: Just amazing

I was on another message board and someone made a comment very similar to the OP and one of the mods wrote back that they thought most people were entertained more by the bickering, as evidenced by high activity when "controversial" or "emotional" threads were going vs less activity when every one was being civil; therefore, they were going to encourage the differences of opinion and let it get very elevated. It struck me as very sad.

RE: Easy Sauteed Mushrooms

Yes, they are that good. I used reduced sodium soy sauce, just thot I would pass that along. It's nice too, because these are so good AND lower in calories! A Big Bonus in my book. :B
What did you use for the "butter"?
I think I estimated that the entire batch was around 80 calories and no fat before you added in your "butter" or "oil". Your fat will probably add in anywhere from 10 - 240 calories, and o - 22 grams of fat. Quite a wide margin.

I made these tonight. They were DELICIOUS! I ate them myself since the DH doesn't like shrooms! Poor guy! Thank you for sharing.
Glad you liked them! I find them almost addictive!

I have absolutely no clue why the link isn't working, but if you just copy and paste the address, it should pull it.

Maybe something with your browser? It might bring up the yellow bar that you have to click to do an add on or something.

RE: Rosetta Stone?

Allison, if I was in your husband's position, I'd buy Rosetta Stone in English, pick one or two promising employees (with leadership potential) and let them use the CD. He could wind up with a very good English speaking foreman or two that he could communicate with.
There are a few long term employees that do speak very good English. (How else would he have made it this long :) ) This will be mainly for the seasonal workers and for being able to communicate with people worker for the other orchard owners. No guarentee they will be around for more than a couple of months and no telling who else he will need to be able to communicate with. He is the static person, so he needs to learn the Spanish. Even if it isn't that good, he needs to have an idea.
My sister teachers junior high and her school is largely hispanic. Thankfully she recalled just enough from high school spanish so that she was able to convince her students she knew what they were saying in Spanish and now they don't try to talk about her, cheat, etc. by speaking in spanish during class.

RE: I had another

Back when I was in college, I worked as a night dispatcher for an electric company. You were only allowed to work there while you were a student - once you graduated, you had to quit. However, after being there a year or so, it was getting closer to the point where we were going to be replaced by an automatic answering service. It got nearer to my graduation and they asked me to stay on since the job would not be around that much longer. By this time, I was the head dispatcher, and even though I was still making minimum wage, I did get to make up all the schedules, so I agreed. I could work 2 nights in a row, get in 30 hours, and then be off for 5 days. Aside from the pay, it was great.
But the transition date kept getting pushed back, and it was becoming painfully obvious that now that I had my bachelors degree and was married, 30 hours a week at minimum wage with no benefits was just not going to cut it. A posting came up for a full time position as a CSR. In the evenings we took most of the calls that were for CSRs so I was already familiar with the nature of the job. I had friends that were CSRs there that would give me a reference. The HR person who knew I couldn't stay on dispatching much longer came and asked me to apply for the CSR position. When I would ask if they were making any progress, she would tell me they were still just in the taking applications part.
Finally I found out that the position had been filled a couple of weeks earlier. I was confused because the HR person had told me how perfect I would be for the job since I already had experience in the area and most of the CSRs there already knew and liked me. I was confused as to why I never even receieved an iterview. She finally revealed that the position was only open to those already employed there full-time and since the night dispatcher job was part-time, I was never eligible for the job in the first place. I fully believe she strung me along so that I wouldn't quit and make them have to train a new hire (plus the cost of the background and drug testing). I think they thought as long as I thought I had a good shot at the CSR job, I wouldn't apply any where else. It really made me feel used.
I immediatly started applying anywhere and everywhere that would be a full time position and pay more than minimum wage. It took a few months, but I eventually did get a better job and I was very honest with my exit interview feedback. I refused to do it during the daytime. I said that they could come to me during my work hours or that they could leave me the paperwork and I would fill it out overnight while I was working and have it in their box the next morning. My final correspondance with the HR person thanked me for being so candid on my exit interview questionaire. Gag me. I still have bad feelings towards her every time I see her around town and that was 8 years ago.
I really hope the person that keeps telling you to apply for jobs is coming from a good place and not a bad place...

RE: Rosetta Stone?

After looking around a bit more, the software at Staples didn't get very good reviews. I instead went with one on Amazon alled Learn to Speak Spanish Deluxe,a couple of phrase books, and a book called "See It and Say It in Spanish". Around $30 for everything and I think it will help him figure out which direction we should head in.
