RE: Laws regarding a firearm in an RV?

You can travel through MO with your firearm. Common sense is the rule of thumb.

RE: Diesel Noise

Our '09 DMax sounds like every other one like it. The only issue we've had with sounds it when we go to the drive up windows to order fast food. Most of them complain because they cannot hear us over the truck. It is bone stock and I don't think it's lout at all.
Going from gas to diesel was sure big change. At first, it sounded to me like we were a few quarts low on oil so I was checking the oil a lot. On cold mornings it sure seems to be a lot louder but it may just be me too.

RE: Our Car Is a Truck-Save $$$

We down sized also and my wife drives the '09 3500HD DRW 4X4 as her daily driver, which makes me jealous! :(
I am "issued" my daily driver so I guess I shouldn't complain too much, but she gets to drive the cool one to work everyday!

RE: Do I have enough truck

We have an '09 3500HD CC 4X4 DRW and it is plenty of truck, if not more, than what we need. We are only pulling a 33' 5th wheel TH and it doesn't even act like it's loaded. LOL

RE: Chevy Integrated Trailer Brake Controller ?

We had trailer brake problems when we had our last truck. It was a SRW 2500HD and we had to pull our KZ 33P about 125 miles without brakes to the repair shop. I was really surprised on how well it stopped without the brakes working at all on the camper. There were only a few times I could tell the truck brakes heated up.

RE: Bumper to trailer minimum distance - 5th Wheel

Use the GN adapter. It will not harm a thing. We've used them for over 20 years on many different 5th wheels and never have had a single issue.

RE: Chevy Integrated Trailer Brake Controller ?

We love it! No issues yet and it everything worked with our KZ when we plugged it in. Oh, we had the dealer put another plug in the bed so we don't have our cord hanging over the tailgate. The thing I noticed with the built in brake controller there is not hesitation for the trailer brakes to engage. Like with the aftermarket one we had in our last truck, there was a bit of hesitation and then the brakes would engage.
I have found that setting the brake gain at around 5.5 works great for us.

RE: The never ending drain search

We have an '07 Sportsman Sportster and all the drains and low points are on the right side underneath. I just open then all the let them drain.
As for the "breather" hose, we lost a bunch of water out once also. I fill the tank before we leave and it acts like a syphon through the vent tube. Sometimes after I fill I will hold the water hose over the vent tube and force water in through it. You can here it burp sometimes LOL

RE: Idea for back up lights.

I made plastic Tail light cover attachmenttail light covers when towing at night, or even backing into a site after dark. These block the lights from hitting the trailer but are visible from the sides. Easy on, easy off, and remain in place while travelling. Never had a problem with DOT.

Dave,
I saw your pictures ove on the diesel forum and they look great. What are they made out of? Is that aluminum?

RE: Idea for back up lights.

You might wish to consult your DMV or local state inspection mechanic BEFORE tampering with the TV backup lights by adding in a cutoff switch. Most states REQUIRE the TV backup lights to automatically operate anytime vehicle is put into reverse.
Draping towels could be heplful but ultimatley connecting some backup lights to the back of the trailer will do wonders.
gstanton, keep in mind we ARE talking abut RVs, most (if not) all vehicles built with 7 pin towing package have the center pin wired for reverse lights.
Not in MO. Back up lights, 4 way flashers, cab lights can be in-operative.
Good ideas here!!

RE: Propane on during towing

In 20 years of traveling we have never turned the gas off. We turn the fridge on in the spring and it is not turned off until we winterize in the winter. We keep it plugged in when we are at home and when we take off the fridge is full of food and ready to go. When we travel the fridge stays on and too.

RE: Open dump valve

About the longest we have stayed in one place is about 10 days. We have never left any of the dumps open, infact, I usually do not keep the sewer hose hooked to the hole in the ground. It's just mostly the two of us staying in it and we can go about 3 days before we need to dump any of the tanks. The galley tank must be smaller because it will fill quicker than the shower/tub tank so sometimes we have to drian it more often.
I wouldn't see any problem in leaving one open just be sure to close it up for a day before you drain your black tank if you don't have a sewer flush system.

Idea for back up lights.

Here's the deal. When we pull our KZ 5th wheel TH at night it's almost impossible to back up. The back up lights on the truck light the front of the camper up so bright that it blinds you enough you cannot see past that.
We have the standard 7 pin RV plug on the truck and camper and to my understanding the center pin is for back up lights. It would be simple to attach some lights to the back of the camper for back up lights, but is there a way that when you are plugged into the camper that it would cancel out the back up lights on the truck? If we pulled full time I would just pull the bulbs out but that would be inconvenient for us now.
Has anyone ever did anything like this?

RE: 12V flashlight

I bought this at Wal-mart the tripod is helpful inside and out. Legs collapse to a regular flashlight grip the LED light has 3 settings: low, med and hi.

Lots of Flashlight options on Amazon LED Flashlights
This is the one my in-laws have had. I know it has been in their camper or 2 seasons now and has never had to have new batteries. Iused it last weekend when I winterized their camper and it worked great!
I have a rechargable spotlight and a Coleman lantern that I keep in the camper. The Coleman rechargable lantern is great for working around the camper and the spot light is great for seeing way out there!

RE: All this talk about CA drivers licenses......

Thanks for all the input!! I was sure I was OK with length but being that my truck and trailer is considered a combination rig I was concerned. My truck has a GVWR of 11,400# and the tag on the trialer is 13,500# so I should be fine then.

RE: About to give up

Bigger truck!
I wouldn't blame a lot of the problems on towing either. I would say the truck had some age and lots of miles and this was the straw that finally did it.
Oh, did I mention, get a bigger truck. The 1/2 tons can pull it but you will be MUCH happier with a bigger truck.

All this talk about CA drivers licenses......

OK, I'm a resident of MO and have the proper endorsements to drive my TV and TH. I'm 58' long total length and only pull the one unit. All these threads that are talking about CA and the proper drivers licenses has me wondering.
Can I drive in the state of California with what I am totally legal with in Missouri????

RE: Fall Camping experience

I used to work in a slaughter house years ago and we processed deer. One evening while working the band saw I broke the saw blade when slicing out shoulder steaks. Come to find out there was a broad head in the shoulder of that deer. Apparently this deer had been shot with an arrow some years previously and the shaft had broken off and grown over.
We also had a deer in once geting processed and there was a 22lr bullet in the base of one of the antlers. The bullet had almost broken the antler off but it grew back. It must have been shot when the deer was in velvet
Deer are very strong and can recover from some pretty bad wounds.
